The competent teacher has in-depth understanding of content area knowledge that includes central concepts, methods of inquiry, structures of the disciplines, and content area literacy. Student Teaching Lesson Plan- One of the lesson plans that I have used during my student teaching experience.
Rationale: During the creation of this lesson plan I had to keep in mind that this was going to be a real lesson that I was going to use in a classroom. While this is far from my first one, I was using this one on a day that I was going to be observed. This lesson plan had been looked over by my cooperating teacher as well as my college supervisor ahead of time to make sure that it was free of error.
Standard Connection: This lesson plan relates to the standard through the various information that I have put inside it. For example, I am aware of the different level of needs that students have within my classes, to be successful for this lesson plan, I have to be able to successfully plan for all of my students. In this lesson plan, it will show you different accommodations I was making for the students so that everyone could get an equal classroom experience. Beyond that, this standard states that the teacher creates meaningful learning experiences based upon interactions. This lesson plan was all about how students are going to work together to complete their "job" on their bowling lane. This shows that students will be creating meaningful learning experiences together. By students participating in this activity, it is my hope that they will learn to work together and hopefully understand that they have a responsibility in this group set-up, and by them not doing their job, it will create a meaningful learning experience where the students realize that other people are counting on them, meaning they begin to understand personal responsibility. This specific lesson plan requires the teacher to put together a lesson plan that allows for all different types of learning to take place, guaranteeing an equal education.
Self-Reflection- I feel that this is one of the better lesson plans that I have ever put together. I feel that throughout the lesson plan, I had everything planned out and organized in a practical way that translated to the classroom very well. Although, I do feel that I could improve upon the area of academic language and summative assessments, I felt that "action" parts of the lesson plan played out beautifully in the classroom.
