About the Playoff
Playoffs will be held among the top three Division winners and the next highest point-getter within the three divisions.
Teams are seeded as follows: The winner of each division is ranked 1st, 2nd, or 3rd according to total points from the season. The 4th place team is the second-place division winner with the most points. (If there is a tie for the 4th place wild card team, the tie will be broken by retrogression, comparing the tied teams’ records in July and backwards, and finally by the flip of a coin).
The semi-final and final matches will each be an 18 hole scramble match, held on different days, each club entering four players, in two pairs. The semi is to be held as soon as can be arranged, followed by the final on a different day. It is recommended that a club who MIGHT finish in the top four within the three divisions, attempt to secure a semi-final playoff date as soon as possible after all August matches are complete. Then, if the club does not finish in the top four, they can release that reservation. Avoiding the Labour day weekend is recommended.
Handicapping follows the rules for the May matches.
Points, as in previous matches, will be awarded as follows: 2 for the front, 2 for the back, and 2 overall, 6 available per match.
Eligible Players: Any player in the semi-final or final matches MUST have played in at least ONE of the regular matches during the season.
Semi-final: requires 4 tee times for 16 players hosted by Team 1 (or see * below)
Each team starts “all even”, no points are carried over from the season, nor from the semi-final match to the final match. Opponents of each match should be arranged with the lower handicap team playing the lower opponent’s handicap team. This will result in the smallest number of strokes being awarded in both matches.
Matches:
Team 1a vs. Team 4a
Team 1b vs Team 4b
Team 2a vs Team 3a
Team 2b vs Team 3b
Ties: If there is a tie after semi-final play in any match, the both pairs from both clubs involved will play on in a three hole play-off (scramble, match play). If there is still a tie, those 8 players continue hole by hole in sudden death.
Final: requires 2 tee times for 8 players by the club hosting the closing. Four players from each winner of the semi-final will contest for the cup at the closing event. Should there be a tie, there will a 3 hole play-off by all players. Points and Ties as in semi-final matches.
*If, for either the semi-final matches or the final matches, a club cannot host, the opportunity to host passes to the next highest place holder. Once a club has hosted the semi-final however, they become the last choice to host the final. This gives an opportunity for each match to be held at a different course.
