FIRST: Become a current member of NHSOA!
Members already with the association will need to submit their annual dues.
If you are looking to become a new member of our association, you will be required to either transfer into the association (from another HS association) or go through the apprentice program.
SECOND: Register with the NHIAA. Once this is complete, you will be put into the Arbiter (assignment system).
THIRD: Complete annual training requirements.
Annual NHSOA Membership Dues are set a "one Varsity Game Fee"
The Fall 2023 Rate: $90
The NHSOA covers all member schools of the NHIAA.
The NHIAA divides its member schools into 4 divisions (Divisions 1-4) for both Boys and Girls. Each division is based on school size with the largest schools being Division 1 and the smallest being Division 4.
Additional games may be available based on the assignor's additional needs for other associations that may request referees.
While we would love to believe that an assignor can know each and every one of his or her referees, with the large number of officials in the NHSOA, it is simply not possible. For those who the assignor does not know personally, he or she will rely on assessments from the Director of Assessment.
If you feel you are capable of higher-level games, please request an assessment (see the assessment page) and once you receive your written feedback, politely submit the feedback to the assignor and see if there are any additional games available that may challenge you.
One must remember though, the NHSOA Assignor oversees thousands of games over the course of the season, his or her first priority is getting coverage and sometimes that means they may not be able to take requests.
