The National Contest was June 9-13, 2024 at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland.

what is national History DAy?
History Day is more than just a day.
- It's a year-long social studies and literacy program that equips students in middle and high school with skills to succeed in college and their careers.
- It's a project-based learning emphasizes critical reading, thinking, research, analysis, and drawing meaningful conclusions.
- Students choose topics related to an annual theme and then develop research projects.

To celebrate our 50th anniversary, NHD’s theme will be Rights & Responsibilities in History. This year’s theme invites you to consider questions of time and place, cause and effect, change over time, and impact and significance.
The key to this theme is addressing BOTH rights AND responsibilities. These are two powerful forces in history, but one does not work without the other.
