STATE Contest

2024 was Saturday, April 6

The state National History Day contest will take place on Montana State University in Bozeman

Registration for the contest is closed.

Here is a tentative SCHEDULE for the day including campus and parking maps.

Buses park at the Brick Breeden Field House "Bobcat" parking lot.

National History Day is open to any Montana student grades 6-12. For more information contact nationalhistorydaymt@gmail.com.

ADVANCEMENT CRITERIA


Any project earning 1st, 2nd or 3rd place at Regionals earns automatic advancement to State. Beyond that, each school is allowed an allotment according to the criteria below.


AA Schools

15 projects can advance to State 

(If attending regionals, top 1, 2, 3, placers per category automatically advance. Teacher(s) decides how to fill any remaining slots)


A school can increase entries to 30 projects at state IF the school brings 2 judges for the State competition.


ABC + Rural Schools


20 projects can advance to State 

(If attending regionals, top 1, 2, 3, placers per category automatically advance. Teacher(s) decides how to fill any remaining slots)


A school can increase to 25 projects at State IF the school brings 1 judge to the state competition. 


NOTE: Project entries are by school. Middle School and High School are separate (eg: Twin Bridges School could enter 20 middle school (Junior Division) projects and 20 high school (Senior Division) projects) 


This criteria is only for the 2023-2024 competition cycle. It is subject to change based on growth of the program statewide.
