Energy Harvesting and Storage
# Triboelectric Nanogenerator # Supercapacitor
Energy harvesting refers to a techmology that collects energy that is wasted in everyday life and uses it as electricity. ‘Light energy’ is emitted from the ceiling light, and ‘Dynamic energy’ is consumed while we are active. Energy harvesting is a method of collecting the waste energy and converting it into electrical energy.
Triboelectric Nanogenerator
Triboelectric nanogenerators operate on the principle that surface charges are formed through the process of friction between two matreials with different electron affinity, thereby generating electricity.
In this NFMD lab, we have been researching how to convert the mechanical energy consumed during daily life into electrical energy through clothing by implementing a one-dimensional fiber-type triboelectric power plant.
Supercapacitor
Supercapacitor is a method of storing electricity due to the way that electrolyte ions absorb on the electrode surface to form an electric double layer. Unlike batteries, it has the advantage of having high stability because it does not cause redox reaction and shows a fast charging / discharging speed, and form a separator using a solid electrolyte. In this NFMD lab, we are working on an energy reservoir that can expand 2D and 3D clothing by implementing a 1D fiber type triboelectric power plant.
