This is how you do it...right

Who can play?

Anyone can register to play the Nephrology World Cup. Students, trainees, physicians, nurses, non-nephrologists, Nephrology/Internal Medicine Divisions, World Cup enthusiasts; everyone is welcome! To play, visit the Play page. Be sure to register before the closing date because only registered players will qualify for prizes.

Only one (1) entry per player, but players can join multiple "Group Entries". Group entries are eligible for prizes and all players (individual or group) are eligible for bragging rights!

Eligibility and Prerequisites

Only registered individual/group players are eligible for prizes. All players must have:

  • Gmail account (free)

  • Facebook, Twitter, and/or Whatsapp accounts (all are free)

Reviewing the Teams

All players will have an opportunity to review each of the thirty-two (32) teams. Scouting Reports for each team will be accessible at the top of this page (Scouting Reports). These Reports will summarize the methodology, findings, and implications of each scholarly work and include editorial commentary from a member of the Organizing team (when applicable). Scouting Reports will also have information that will allow you to access the free full-text for each competitor.

Players are asked to consider the interest, ingenuity, clinical implications, creativity, scientific rigor, and/or novelty of each competing manuscript (team). Your consideration in one or more of these areas will form the basis of your selections.

Selection of “Top 3” Teams

During the registration phase each player (that's you) will be asked to select three (3) teams that s/he considers “top contenders”. Specifically, you will be asked to select a team that you think will:

  • 🥇 win the Nephrology World Cup,

  • 🥈 earn second place, and

  • 🥉 walk away with third place.

These selections cannot be changed so it is important that every player read the scouting reports for each of the thirty-two (32) teams before making her/his selections.

Pro Tip: Need help in making your selections? Visit the Strategy Page to read what factors influenced other players during their selections.

Group Play

The Nephrology World Cup starts with eight groups (Groups A-H) of four (4) teams each. During the registration phase, each player will select one (1) team from each group that s/he believes will win its respective Group. All selections are final; so it is important that each player review the scouting reports for all thirty-two (32) teams.

Your selections (8 in total) will serve as your vote in Group Play. Once Group Play has concluded (we'll tell you the date), the team with the highest votes in each Group will advance to the first of two (2) Knockout Rounds.

One (1) point will be awarded to you for each correct prediction that you make (good luck). You can earn a maximum of eight (8) points in Group Play...so make your selections carefully!

You can see your point total, projections, and rankings in the Dashboard.

Quarterfinal

In the Quarterfinal, the entire CVRM community will vote for teams they think should win its respective match. Voting will occur on this website (like all voting).

You (the player) will earn two (2) points if one of your “Top 3” teams wins its match in the Quarterfinals. That means you can earn a maximum of six (6) points (three teams x two points for each victory).

Check your point totals and ranking in the Dashboard.

Semifinal

The Semifinal is a unique round because all teams will matriculate into either:

  • the Championship Match or

  • the Third Place Match.

You can collect two (2) points if your pre-selected Champion enters into the Championship Match. You can earn another two (2) points if your pre-selected Second Place team enters into the Championship Match. So, if you correctly predict the Championship Match, you will earn four (4) points...NICE!

Similarly, two (2) points are awarded to a player whose pre-selected Third Place team enters into the Third Place Match.

Remember, the entire Nephrology community will cast their votes (including you), so it will help you to use science and logic to convince others to vote for your team!

Final / 3rd Place Match

Now come the big money matches!!!

You will earn ten (10) points if your pre-selected Champion receives a majority of votes...so it helps to be a fierce and vocal advocate of your team.

You can earn five (5) points if your pre-selected Second Place team earns a minority of votes during the Championship Match.

Finally, you can earn four (4) points if your pre-selected Third Place team earns a majority of votes in the Third Place Match.

The final point totals and rankings will be posted in the Dashboard. That's where the bragging rights start!!!
