Inspired by a true story and featuring the Tony®-nominated score by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, Broadway’s Bright Star tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s. When literary editor Alice Murphy meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past—and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives.
Registration is now closed for the cast for this summer, but we are looking for members of tech crew and build volunteers! Click the button below to join an email list for more information.
TLDR: It’s about a newspaper editor in North Carolina who hires a bright-eyed new writer and reflects on her life as a teenager and how she had to cope with the loss of her baby

Yes! Fill out our tech crew form (on our email list page) and follow our instagram to receive updates about tech builds. Also feel free to reach out to nstproducer@gmail.com about volunteering out outside of tech crew (ushering, joining us in the parade, odd jobs, etc)
The short answer is: Probably yes (as long as you're here for the show dates)
The long answer is: Most cast members will miss at least a few consecutive days- we understand that summer is a time when many families travel (as do your artistic directors!). Generally, if you're missing more than two weeks, especially consecutively or later into the program, then it may become an issue. Missing consecutive chunks of time may also affect the size of the role we can place you in. If you're concerned, please reach out to nstproducer@gmail.com!
CAST: Rehearsals begin after auditions and are Mon-Fri 6-9pm in the Needham HS auditorium. Not every cast member will be called every day (like how school drama programs typically work). Tech week (the week before the show) will be 5-10pm, and rehearsals the week before may be extended as well. The cast will also be called all day Saturday, 7/26 (specific times will be communicated closer to that rehearsal). Cast members will also be asked to march with NST in the Needham 4th of July parade. Additional rehearsals may be scheduled, but we will be more flexible with any last minute changes!
CREW: Set builds will be Saturday afternoons in July. Crew is not required to attend all set builds, and you're welcome to come as much or as little as you are able to! Time commitment for crew varies based on role, but those who are working the show (SMs, run crew, lights/spots, props, sound, etc) will be asked to attend Tech Day/Load In (7/26), Tech Week (7/28-7/31), and the shows (8/1, 8/2)
This program is supported in part by a grant from the Needham Council for Arts and Culture, a local agency which is supported by the Town of Needham and the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
