Weeze

At the time of Operation Veritable, Weeze, which had been 80 percent destroyed, was almost deserted. The Höst farming community and the Kalbeck Forest were particularly heavily contested. On March 2nd, Canadian troops moved into enemy-free Weeze.

Weeze, Operation Varsity

On March 24, 1945, a film team in Weeze documented the combat troops' flight over the area. C47 flying in formation. More scenes at various points in the town center. Stirling bomber flying low on the way back.

Advanced Landing Ground B-100

B-100 Goch was the first British airfield on German soil and was located directly on the Dutch border. Typhoon and Spitfire fighter planes took off from here in March and April 1945 to support the advancing Allied troops.

The runway consisted of perforated steel plates and was 1,097 meters long. There was also an emergency runway and a grass runway to the northwest for transport aircraft.
