Several people are talking in front of a military government building (AEF 222 Detachment). One of them bears a striking resemblance to the art protection officer Ronald Balfour. Among other things, he prevented the demolition of the Goch Steintor and saved numerous cultural assets from Goch and Kleve from being looted or destroyed.
The scenes were probably taken in the Heinsberg / Geilenkirchen area.

Donald Colman Bailey developed the concept of constructing temporary bridges from standardised, prefabricated components within a very short space of time.
During the Second World War, countless of these bridges enabled the Allies to replace destroyed bridges or create additional crossings in the shortest possible time.
In 1945, 21 of these temporary bridges were built on the Rhine between Emmerich and Dinslaken.

As part of war reparations, the Netherlands planned to annex large areas along its eastern border. This would have included the districts of Kleve and Geldern. New Dutch place names had even been devised.
However, the plans on this scale were rejected by the occupying powers. Only in the Elten, Beek/Wyler and Selfkant areas were larger areas granted to the Netherlands in 1949. The territories were returned to Germany in 1963 on the basis of a state treaty. However, Beek/Wyler with the Wylerberg, a popular excursion area that is still Dutch today, was excluded from this.
