This preserve is owned by Coastal Mountains Land Trust and boasts sweeping views of Penobscot Bay amidst blueberry barrens and open fields. There are two parking areas at Beech Hill, but our group will be meeting at the parking area off of Beech Hill Road.

Saturday, September 6, 2025, Weskeag Marsh
7:00 am to 9:00 am
Trip Leader: Eddy Edwards
Shorebird migration is in full swing by now and there should be plenty of shorebirds cruising the marsh fueling up for their fall migration. If we are lucky herons and egrets will also put on a fishing clinic as they chase down small fish trapped inside the front pannes. Most of the birding will be done from the parking lot area, however there may be a brief walk out to the platform where we can see a few migrating songbirds in the woods. Meet at the parking lot on Buttermilk Lane in South Thomaston, wear boots!
Directions: From Route 1 in Thomaston, turn onto Buttermilk Lane and in 0.8 miles look for the parking turnout at the marsh (coordinates: 44.07916, -69.14174).

Saturday, September 13, 2025, Clark Island
7:00 am to 10:00 am
Trip Leaders: Kate Doiron & Eddy Edwards
Clark Island is a wonderful piece of property owned by Maine Coast Heritage Trust and we always find a lot of birds on this trip (sometimes up to 50 species!). Expect just about anything from seabirds to warblers to loons. The trails are flat and easy to walk which makes for easy birding. A great way to start a nice fall morning. Park and meet behind the Craignair Inn in the designated parking locations. Carpooling is recommended.

Saturday, September 20, 2024, Clarry Hill Preserve
7:00 am to 9:00 am
Trip Leader: Kate Doiron & Lee Anne Beausang
September is peak hawk migration and no better place to see it in our area than Clarry Hill! Recently conserved by the Midcoast Conservancy, Clarry Hill in Union is a managed blueberry barren, making birds cruising by the summit highly visible. Hawks love to ride the thermals as they pass through on their way south for the year. Hopefully we might get a few good ones passing by. The barrens are also home to bluebirds, northern harriers, and ravens – Clarry Hill has fewer species overall but they are always very interesting! Address: 530 Elmer Hart Ln, Union.

Saturday, September 27, 2025, Monhegan Island
6:30 am to 12:30 pm/4:30 pm
Trip Leaders: Don Reimer, Eddy Edwards & Ann Boover
September is always an awesome month to visit Monhegan island for migrating warblers and other songbirds. Plus, for some reason it’s a magnet for attracting rare birds so we might be lucky and see something great. Our trip will depart promptly from Port Clyde’s Monhegan Boat Line at 7 am and you can decide if you want to return the same day on either the 12:30 pm ferry ride or the 4:30 pm ferry ride. The choice is yours on the return, but we plan on birding the entire day until 4:30 pm. Participants will be responsible for reserving their own ferry ticket (Monhegan Boat Lines) and remember to pack a lunch. Meet at the Monhegan Boat Lines Ferry in Port Clyde. Space is limited in the group, please sign up anyone in your party who is attending.

Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Erickson Fields Preserve
7:00 am to 9:00 am
Trip Leaders: Sue Keefer & Steve Norris
Mid October is always a good time of early for hardy sparrows passing through the area. During the walk we will pay close attention to the open fields and gardens that Erickson Fields Preserve has to offer. The woods portion of the walk should produce some thrushes and a few lingering warblers. High overhead we will be on the lookout for migrating hawks and eagles. Meet at the Erickson Fields parking lot on Route 90 in Rockport.

Saturday, October 11, 2024, Clark Island
7:00 am to 9:30 am
Trip Leader: Ann Boover
As the fall migration starts to slow down, we are hoping for one more final push of birds before the woods become quiet again. Clark Island has always been a fan favorite so we thought we would give it one more try for the year. There should be a nice combination of waterbirds and songbirds still in the area and the temperatures should be perfect. Join us for a relaxing walk along the coast. Meet at the designated parking lot behind the Craignair Inn, carpooling is recommended.

Saturday, November 15, 2025, Roaring Spout Seawatch
6:00 am AND 7:00 am to 9:30 am
Trip Leader: Eddy Edwards
New on our list of bird walks is the Roaring Spout Seawatch, a cliffside perch in St. George facing our beloved Metinic Island. We’ll meet at Blueberry Cove 4-H Camp and shuttle folks to the end of the private drive (or you can walk - over a mile) to a short trail out to the cliff conserved by the Georges River Land Trust. We will offer a shuttle at 6 AM and 7 AM. Our spotting scopes can see for miles, picking up possible great cormorants, northern gannets, and sea ducks. This is a really good time of year to catch migrating common and red-throated loons on their southbound journey.

Saturday, November 22, 2025, Marshall Point Lighthouse
8:00 am to 9:30 am
Trip Leaders: Kate Doiron & Ann Boover
This time of year, the bird walks turn into seawatching adventures! We’ll set up spotting scopes at Marshall Point Lighthouse checking for off-shore migrants moving south along the coastline. Good numbers of loons, sea ducks, and northern gannets should be passing through the area. We’ll welcome the start of “weird duck season” as our arctic ducks return to us for the winter. Expect some chilly temperatures so dress warm and bring the hot cocoa! Meet at the lighthouse parking lot in Port Clyde.
