Greek subculture: music, cinema, youth passtimes

On this page you will find articles written by a group of three students, two French (Joachim and Arwen) and one Greek (Eleftheria). We have discovered Greek subculture, conducted interviews with our fellow students, their teachers, our host families. We wanted to share all our findings with you in order to help you to get to know this part of Greek life better.

Music

Music at preveza school

tRADITIONAL AND POPULAR MUSIC

During our stay in Preveza, we noticed that Greek teenage is listening to the same type of music that we do in Frence: rap, pop, light rock ... As in France, the fun of anglo-saxon groups and singers, like Shawn Mendes, Billie Elish or Alec Benjaman. What we found really remarkable is that our Greek partners also like French music and often listen to Kids United, Stromae or Bigflo & Oli. In France we do not have the opportunity to enjoy Greek music, which is extremely pleasant. Fun, we can hear in Greece both traditional and popular music everywhere. In the restaurants, in public transport you can enjoy the traditional tunes. When we with our teen friends listened and we danced to the pop music. Generally, Greek people are very musical and usually sing and dance. They are really happy, energetic people full of joy.

Cinema

CINEMA

In Greece it's like in France there are many Greek movies. But in Preveza there isn't a cinema... Sometimes there is a special room to watch a movie once a month. People in Greece prefer to watch Americain movies. We have conducted an interview in order to find out what our partners' preferences are. Here come the results: in terms of movie types, they watch action in first, comedy in second and horror for thrird. The teenagers watch the following sereies: Games of Thrones, House of Cards and Riverdale. If you want to find out more, have a look at this interview.

What we discovered is that they watch mostly the English subtitled version of American films. We believe that this help them to master English language better.
