Fashion and shopping in Greece

With the help of an Erasmus project, we were able to go to Greece to discover its life and culture.

We are two French girls who love fashion, and who worked on the styles of teenagers greek.

We would like to share our findings.

All articles are written in Greece or France during the year 2019.

Greek teenagers VS French teenagers : Boy edition

Greek teenagers often wear wide jeans or joggings because they play football or other sports so they must be casual.

In Greece you can wear whatever you want to but that just for the boys.

French teens have similar style like the Greek ones, but in college they do not have the right to wear joggings. Jeans with holes are not allowed in the college precinct.

Greek teenagers VS French teenagers : girl edition

Greek teenagers love to be casual when they go to school and they don't really care what they wear in school. Now for the girls are not allowed to wear short pants or jeans in school. But when they hang out with their friends they like to dress up more "girly" and they like to do some makeup too! They are like models!

French teenagers unlike Greek teenagers, prefer to be " well dressed " because we are not allowed to joggings. In colleges it is forbidden to put shorts, and skirts and dresses too short.

the Accessories of now

Jewels :

The jewels that we can find on the market or in the souvenir shops are not very expensive, between 1 euro and 5 euros. They are small, very thin but with showy colors, such as blue, white, orange... the symbole of eye which is represented on many of them relates to a common superstision of "an evil eye". We find is a sign everywhere on bracelets or necklace, and there are also jewels with shells.

Bagpacks :

As French we found it strange that Greek teenagers wer their bag very low on their backs while the French were them rather high. We asked them the question, we were all told that it was fashionable, no practical question.

The shoes in "vogue" :

Fila Disruptor are fashionable shoes in Greece. They are also known in France and we have had success, but in Greece young girls are tearing themselves away. Off all colors, in all matters. They are real stars !

Clothing stores

Unpopular stores :

In the town of Preveza and its outsides there is no chain of shops, such as : Zara, Bershka, Pull & Bear, H&M... But are shops if i can say " unique ".

Popular store :

Pink Woman is the most popular store in Preveza, all girls go there. The clothes that are sold there are of the current styles.

Greek Price VS French Price :

In Greece the prices of clothing and jewelry are less expansive, a T-shirt in France costs about 20€ while in Greece they are about 10€. There are about 5 where 10 euro difference.

For example :

A tank top at Mango is worth 20€, and the same tank top at Pink Woman is worth 10€.

our impressions

We noticed that Greek teenagers dressed as they wanted and without judgment. In France as soon as teenager sees another teenager, they look at each other badly, there is a direct judgment. We find it so much better.

history of makeup

In vials they put cream and balm. All the products was made with olive oil or honey, it depends on how they use the products. The greek women put alot of balm on their faces, because it shines and gave a nice color and their skin, without using a lot of makeup. Pigmented makeup is reserved for " courtisanes ". In the antiquity time the women already waxed or shaved.

History of the styles

Clothes :

The men, just like women were all dressed in toges, which usually were light colured. According to the social statues, the clothes were developed with certain colors usually purple and gold. They all wore sandals on their feet.

Hairstyles :

They are essentially curly and tied up hairstyles, the curls are natural. They are developed, but need to stay natural. They usually put headbands and tiaras.

History of accessory

They wear alot of rings, bracelets and necklaces which somethings they wear around thei arms. A fibula (clip), is used to hold the toge together.

During Antiquity it was important to follow the fashion launched by the Queen or the Empress.
