UMass
The conference will be held in the town of Amherst on the flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts system. Founded in 1863, “UMass” Amherst is the largest public research university in New England, distinguished by the excellence and breadth of its academic, research, and community outreach programs.
The campus sits on nearly 1,450 acres in the scenic Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts, about 90 miles from Boston and 175 miles from New York City. Thus, UMass provides a rich cultural environment in a rural setting close to major urban centers. In 2022, UMass was home to ~1,900 full-time instructional faculty and more than 32,000 total undergraduate and graduate students.
Several campus maps can be located on the UMass Visitor Information website here.
Events Area
All official conference events will take place in, or near, the University Campus Center, which also houses the University Hotel (see also the “Accommodations” page of this website). Thus, the grounds will be easy to navigate physically. Additionally, for off-campus travel on Thursday evening, we will provide conference-dedicated shuttles to and from Amherst Center and downtown Northampton to allow people to explore the numerous restaurants, bars, and other entertainment attractions. (Note that dinner will be included with the Wednesday evening welcome reception and Friday evening banquet; thus, no conference-dedicated shuttles are provided on those evenings.)
The locations of the rooms not on the 1st floor of the Campus Center are as follows:
UPub (2nd floor, Campus Center)
Hotel Lobby (3rd floor, Campus Center)
Amherst Room (10th floor, Campus Center)
Marriott Center (11th floor, Campus Center)
