Ever thought the animal rosters for the existing expansion packs needed a little spice, or that they were missing features? The Expansion Booster Packs are here to help, adding a variety of things to the game that mesh with and are treated as extensions of existing expansions.
African Adventure is light on a lot of things - it has animals, a campaign, some half-baked shelters and enrichment and some fancy new behaviors, but it plucks features and scenery from Endangered Species and parades them around as its own and doesn't have a lick of new foliage - its unlockable theme doesn't even come with a music rock!
This pack might not include new animals, but it does try to fill in some of AA's bigger holes, with 16 new foliage objects (8 trees and 8 smaller plants, some ported from Folksy Facelift and others brand new), a new scenery object in the Desert Music Rock, and a polished version of the unused Small Savannah Burrow (of the vanilla game's animals, only the warthog will use it, but any user-made animals with b_SmallSavannahBurrowUser="true" in their main .xml should be able to use it too).
3/28/2026 Update
Several of the plants should now appear more natural on sloped terrain. Please be aware that they will no longer appear if your Object Detail setting is set to low.
Tamboti trees and raffia palms can now be placed in shallow water, consistent with the other wetland trees.
This pack introduces three familiar Cenozoic mammals to the game: the colossal Columbian mammoth, one of the biggest mammoth species known to man; the dramatic Irish elk, bearing the biggest antlers of any deer; and the gnarly Embolotherium, an elephant-sized ungulate.
All three of these animals appear in Zoo Tycoon 2: Extinct Animals, albeit as cameos: the Columbian mammoth is an unlockable statue, the Embolotherium appears on a blurry plaque attached to the Extinct Education Center and the Irish elk has both a statue and a plaque.
A Deluxe Edition of the Extinct Animals Booster Pack, designed with the vanilla game in mind, is in development. Alongside the initial three animals (which will be a whole lot grander in stature in this package!), it'll feature a selection of new foliage, a handful of new fences and decor, and an alternate outlet for the Extinct Animals maps made for Folksy Facelift.
10/22/2024 Update
Fossils for the Embolotherium and Columbian mammoth may no longer be found during Level 1 of the fossil finding minigame, now requiring Level 3 and Level 5 to be uncovered respectively.
All three animals' biome preferences have been modified, reflecting version 1.1 of Folksy Facelift. Most heavy affected is the Embolotherium, which now lives in the Desert, Grassland and Savannah biomes (if you want to keep your pre-existing embolothere Scrub habitats, you might need to give them a couple more tar pits to keep their educational value up).
12/13/2022 Update
Embolotherium and Columbian mammoth fossils and cloning have been implemented.
A handful of subtle variants for the Embolotherium.
A small taste of Folksy Facelift behavioral changes, exclusive to the Columbian mammoths for now.
Did you know that Zoo Tycoon 2's climactic compilation package, Ultimate Collection, might have been planned to have some extra content that didn't make it to the final release? The game files suggest that guests were meant to have a gate that they could use, and the old website advertises elephant seals as being in the package - no, really!
This pack offers standalone, lightly-updated versions of the southern elephant seal and guest gate that were made for Folksy Facelift. Keep in mind that FF's dedicated exhibit path and walkthrough exhibit feature aren't included here, just the gate!
