Main objectives: Past forest disturbance history from different data sources:

• Fire-killed snags and fire scars from the FERLD

• Subfossil logs from the the Timiskaming region to reconstruct the historical logging

Description: Group dedicated to reconstructing past disturbance histories (fire and historical logging) using fire scars on trees and subfossil logs which are tree remains of log driving collected at the bottom of lakes.

Skills you will acquire:

• Analysis of fire scars and fire dating

• Analysis of cross-sections from subfossil logs

• Cross-dating (living and subfossil)

• Chronology building and validation
