This week the task idea was to know about how to design 3d models on fusion 360 program through different tools
I got inspired from the tutorials , and tried to go through the tutorials .
software used : fusion 360 program ,
Tutorials
Extrude
-The main task this week was to know how to design a 3D model on fusion 360 so I started to follow the tutorials , the first one was the extrude tool :
-First step was to draw the base of the drawing with it's specific dimensions , then from the modify panel i chose extrude and selected the face that I need to extrude with it's extrusion distance
-After this I used the shell tool to give the vase the thickness I want to be hollow from the inside .
Loft
The second tool was loft , this tool needed to have to shapes on different levels to start to connect between them , so firstly I draw a polygon on the ground plane and from the construct panel I chose offset plane to start a new plane with a specific height from the first one .
-then after this I drew a polygon on the second plane
-To make the points be twisted with fixed points , I needed to have a constraint so from the preferences panel I checked on allow 3d sketching of lines , and started to draw lines between the points of the two polygons
- The last thing was to make loft and then move one of the points to make the shape twisted .
Sweep
Third tool was the sweep tool , it requires a profile and a path to follow it :
-I drew the polygon in the xy plane , then i started to draw the path i want the vase to take it's shape in the zx plane , after this from the create panel i chose sweep :
-profile : The polygon
-path : The path I drew on the zx plane
then at the end I chose shell to make the thickness of the vase
Revolve
This tool depends on a profile and an axis to revolve around , but this axe can't be inside the shape
so I started to draw half of the shape in the zx Plane with the spline tool , then from the solid panel I chose revolve and selected the profile and the axe I want it to revolve around
The last thing was the shell command to make it hollow .
Sub features
These tools are used to create a more complex shape ,
-firstly I drew half of the shape of the vase
-Then from create panel I chose revolve and selected the Z axis
-To divide the shape into three parts , I started to take two offset plane from the construct panel ,and then from the modify panel (Split body ) and selected the bodies .
-Shell for the vase
-To make the strips on the vase , I started to draw a new sketch with the dimensions of the strip , then I started to extrude it (Intersect with the vase
-The last thing was to make this strip a circular pattern with it's number .
Fidget
Ball connect DMS
To draw this part of the fidget :
I started to draw a circle with the specified diameter from the origin and then I drew a vertical line to be a semi circle and then I trimmed the extra part .
-After this from the create panel I chose revolve ,this created the ball part
-Then to start to draw the hand of it , I started to make an offset plane with a distance 89.72 from the center of the ball plane
-Then I drew the square to make an extrude (Join) from it with a distance 39.72 in a direction towards the ball
- The last step was to cut inside this hand by drawing a circle 15mm and an extrude (Cut ) downwards and the same step with a circle of diameter 20mm.
Base DMS
To draw this part of the fidget :
I started to draw a circle with the specified diameter from the origin and then I drew a vertical line to be a semi circle and then I trimmed the extra part .
-After this from the create panel I chose revolve ,this created the ball part
-Then To make the ball without the upper part of it , from the construct panel I created an offset plane with a distance 32.64 ,then from the modify panel split body
-After this I removed the upper part , and started to make a shell with a distance 4mm
-The last step was to make the hanger , i drew a circle with a radius 9 mm and an offset 2mm
-The I extruded it 2mm (Join )
Hook connect DMS
To o draw this part :
-First I drew a rectangle with the specified dimensions , then extruded it
-Then I drew a circle with diameter 14 mm and then extruded it downwards (Join ) with a distance 10mm
-After this I selected the face of the circle and drew another one on it with a diameter 19mm , then extruded it downwards (Join ) 5mm
-Then I constructed an offset plane with a distance 39.64 from the base ,and drew a rectangle on it with dimension (30*15)
-After this I extruded the rectangle downwards (Cut ) , this created a hollow shape inside it .
-The last thing , I drew a circle on the top face and extruded it downwards (Cut ) with a distance 5.36 mm .
Hook DMS
To o draw this part :
-First I drew a rectangle with the specified dimensions , then extruded it
-Then I constructed an offset plane with a distance 2mm to start tto draw the hook
-Then I drew an arc from the center of the origin on the new plane ,
-After this Offset the drawn arc with a distance 14.2 and then I dew a vertical const. line to mirror this arc
-Then I extruded it
-The last thing was to draw a circle on the face of the base rectangle and extruded it towards the hook (Join)
Joining the fidget
-Firstly I started to create components from the drawn bodies to start assembly
-I made the base part (Ground ) to start assembly on it
-Then to joint the ball connect to it , I started to choose join from the assembly panel and selected the 2 components , after this I added motion to it (Ball motion ) then I added limits to it from the edit joint limits panel to make it between angle 30 and -30
-Then I started to join the second part , with a revolving motion
-The last part I joined it with a axial motion, but I needed to add limits to it , so i started editing it from the edit joint limits panel , from 0 to 15mm .
Pen and pencil case
Firstly I searched for pencil case made with 3D printing and got inspired from these ideas , then I started to think to make a multifunction pencil case , so I thought of making it with a space for a rubber or a sharpener ...
Before drawing on fusion 360 , I started to draw the plan and section of the pencil case on AutoCAD with it's dimensions .
3D modelling of the pencil case
To draw the extra space part :
-I drew with the line tool the shape and then drew a circle , after this I trimmed the circle then made an offset from the whole drawing with a distance 5mm
-After this I copied this drawing from the top view with a distance 40mm to start to make a surface between them (Loft )
-From the create panel I chose loft and started to select the two profiles that I want to make a surface between them
For the main pencil case holder :
-I chose the face and drew a rectangle on it which will be the surface I will use to sweep
-Then I took an offset plane from the ground plane to start to draw on it a random path to sweep on it with a distance 50mm from the ground
-After this from the create panel I chose sweep(Join) and selected the rectangle and the path to move on it
-The same process was done for the bottom part with a random path .
-The last step was to export the STL file , by right clicking on the body and choose save as STL
-Then I imported the STL on prusa slicer and started to choose the settings for printing (0.2mm normal , Generic PLA , infill 15%)
-After I chose slice , I found that the estimated time exceeded 90 minutes and the file size was 45 grams , so I started to scale the model down and changed the settings to 0.35mm Fast , infill 20% .
-Time 75min.
-Size : 25grams
Steps of fabrication :
-first I checked my file with the instructor , then I put it in a SD card
-After this I chose the filament color I want and started to install it on the machine by selecting from the menu load filament
-After this I inserted The SD card in the machine and chose my file then started printing it
-Yes I took feedback from the instructors on my work , I had some questions about the tools to make a spring like pencil case and the instructor discussed it with me
-During the midweek session I had some questions about the plane we choose during drawing the model and I learnt that we could choose a face on the body to draw on it .
- I learnt from my peers from their questions on our WhatsApp group .Someone asked about the file size I had the same problem , and one of the instructors answered her for changing the settings .
During the designing of the pencil case I had a problem with the file size in sort of grams and time of it , so I asked the instructor for a solution , and he helped me by changing the settings from 0.2mm normal to 0.35mm fast , and I also made the infill with a less percentage , this helped me to not exceed the required size
At this week , I learned 3D modelling tools as loft ,extrude ,revolve..., and how to assemble different bodies together with different types of motions , which I may use in the final project if I am going to use 3D printing
