For this formative, the students were given a selection of stimuli in the form of clips from classic movies with the audio cut out.  The students were then challenged to craft an original theme that fit the clip.  They had to consider the setting, style, and the emotions the audience needed to feel.  Each were asked to craft two contrasting ideas, experimenting with different elements of music, style, and theatrical context.
