Creating the animation video on incorporating meditation into a busy life was an integral part of my minicourse, "Meditation Practice for Beginners." This video fits seamlessly within the course as it addresses a common barrier for beginners: finding time to meditate. It aligns with the learning objective of helping learners integrate meditation into their daily routines, thereby making the practice accessible and manageable even for those with busy schedules.
Meeting Accessibility Standards: Ensuring accessibility was a key consideration throughout the project. By adding closed captions, I aimed to make the content accessible to individuals with hearing impairments. This also benefits non-native speakers and those who prefer reading along with the audio. Accessibility is crucial in instructional design to ensure that all learners, regardless of their abilities, can benefit from the content.
Closed Captioning Process: The closed captioning process involved transcribing the narration and synchronizing the text with the audio. Using Canva Pro, I added text boxes to each slide, ensuring they appeared and disappeared in sync with the spoken words. This step was essential to provide an inclusive learning experience and comply with accessibility standards.
Reflection on Software Program: Using Canva Pro to create the animation video was relatively straightforward. The platform's user-friendly interface and extensive library of templates and graphics made it easy to design engaging visuals. The animation and transition features allowed for smooth storytelling. However, syncing audio with animations required careful attention to detail.
For future projects, I might explore other tools like Powtoon or Animaker, which offer more additional animation capabilities. These platforms could provide additional creative options and potentially streamline the process further.
Overall, this project was a valuable learning experience in balancing visual appeal, functionality and accessibility to create effective instructional content.
