Reflection on Creating the Video for Meditation Practice for Beginners:
How does the video fit within your minicourse? The video serves as the introductory module for the “Meditation Practice for Beginners” minicourse, for week one of my course. It aligns with the learning objective of providing participants with a foundational understanding of meditation, its history, benefits, and various types. By visually and audibly presenting this information, the video engages learners and sets the stage for subsequent modules, ensuring they are well-prepared to embark on their meditation journey.
What are your thoughts on meeting accessibility standards? Meeting accessibility standards was a priority throughout the video creation process. Ensuring that the content is accessible to all learners, including those with disabilities, involved using high-contrast visuals, clear and simple language and providing closed captions. These measures help make the content inclusive, allowing everyone to benefit from the course regardless of their individual needs.
What was your closed captioning process? The closed captioning process involved transcribing the video script and synchronizing the text with the audio. This was done using Canva Pro and Articulate 360 Storyline and simply splitting the video per each section and then adding in the text on screen to align with the audio in the video. The captions were reviewed and edited for accuracy, ensuring that they matched the spoken content and provided a clear and readable text alternative for viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Reflect on the software program you used to create your video. I used Canva Pro and Articulate 360 Storyline to create the video. The software was relatively easy to use, offering a range of features that facilitated the editing process, such as timeline editing, text to speech audio adjustments and visual effects. However, there were some challenges, particularly in learning the more advanced features. For future projects, I leaned a new skill in Canva called page-splitting, this feature allowed me to add my closed captioning with ease.
