Normani and Dinah met thanks to the group chat, and their friendship was built on mutual bullying and teasing from both parties about maybe having sex someday. Dinah eventually makes Normani her person and they spend a lot of time together when Normani comes to visit Miami for the first time. After Dinah goes through issues with her mom, Normani’s mom takes her in and over the course of their senior year, the girls get even closer. During this time, they get teased about dating, but aside from two kisses, they never get anywhere. After Dinah leaves, Normani grows to resent Dinah, and when she comes back, they get into a fight and then realize that they do love each other in some capacity, so they start dating.
