Battle of the Books is a competition-based club that connects readers from different genres to test their ability to memorize details from a list of books. We aim to inspire students to develop a love for literature and strengthen students' ability to work as a team using critical thinking skills. It consists of questions about the details of books from a set list and is conducted at the local, state, regional, and national level. Its legacy in promoting culture through reading and engaging competitions makes this an ideal club for any book lover.

Do you love chess? If you want to improve your game or just want a fun relaxing place to play, then the Chess Club is for you! Help us continue the Myers Park High School Chess Team’s tradition of excellence. All skill levels are welcome and chess sets are provided. Last year, the MPHS Chess Team was undefeated in the CMS team tournaments and finished 2nd at States. Our club's mission is to practice chess together and compete as a team in order to represent Myers Park and inspire students everywhere to become players of the world's most superior board game.

Future Business Leaders of America is the largest business and CTE organization in the world which is designed to help prepare its members for careers in business. Future Problem Solvers is an international academic competition that empowers students to look for positive ways to effect change locally and globally through competition components that value critical and creative thinking, strong writing and communication skills, and collaboration. Global Issues students research topics throughout the competition season and apply the six-step creative problem solving process to positively impact futuristic scenarios. Community Problems students explore a challenge facing their community, and Creative Writing students craft their own short stories rooted in research and futuristic topics. We hope to continue MPHS FPS’s strong tradition of placing in the Top 10 at Internationals.

Odyssey of the Mind is a global competition organization that promotes creative problem-solving through long-term and spontaneous challenges. Members form small teams(a maximum of 7 members) to develop creative solutions that integrate engineering, design, and performance. Each team selects one of five long-term problems, creates a solution within strict cost limits, and performs their solution at Regional, State, and World competitions. Teams also practice spontaneous challenges, testing quick thinking and teamwork under pressure.

Science Olympiad is a club that aims to spread awareness about the various science fields through competitions and other events. There are over 20 events every year in which students participate within to increase their understanding within a specific field and demonstrate it for a chance to win medals and trophies. It allows students to explore subjects they may not have had the chance to or want to on a deeper level using hands-on experiences and collaboration within the team. Science Olympiad is the perfect club for anyone with a passion for science and innovation!

Speech and Debate is a competitive club that empowers students to find their voice, explore current events, and join a community of other students. We meet every Tuesday and Thursday for practice and compete on weekends at various local and travel tournaments. Students have the opportunity to earn awards at a multitude of competitions, some hosted by prestigious institutions including Harvard University and Emory University. Our four events (Speech, Public Forum, Congressional Debate, and Lincoln-Douglas) offer a wide range of styles and topics to fit every interest. No prior experience is necessary. Academic WorldQuest is a geography competition where high schools send small teams to a one-time competition each year. Students will be given multiple topics to choose from ranging from world flags to current events and physical geography. We will compete in the Fall term and adjourn for the rest of the year. Myers Park's WorldQuest team encourages any curious geographers out there to explore this engaging and challenging outlet of geographic knowledge!
