Building Structure...

Unit Zero was all about setting yourself up for success! From getting a notebook organized to registering for online course materials. We developed a foundation for the work to come.

Getting to Know Your Workspace:

BrightSpace observations was an assignment that focused on getting students familiarized with their online learning system. This is an important tasks for those new to online learning, college, or BrightSpace.

SimPath registration is a required resource in this class. Registration connects your BrighSpace and SimPath accounts together. This facilltates assignments that build skills through sites such as Microsoft Word and Outlook.

Providing communication channels allows connection in a digital classroom. Our first communcation channel was introduced through the Professional Email assignment. This task consisted of sending an email to our professor introducing ourself, asking questions, attaching a file, and creating a signature. Our second channel was created through dissucussion board posts. This prompted us to reflect on what we had learned from the assignment and respond to classmates.

Notebook set up consisted of creating a place to organize our thoughts on the information we are provided in the course.

Why This Works:

Learning about BrightSpace in the first week of the course helps build confiednce in routine tasks. Supporting weekly tasks such as submitting assignments, posting discussion boards, and viewing grades.

SimPath registration provides students with the materials they need to complete course work and gain knowledge about Microsoft platforms.

It is esstenial to a student's success to be aware of the prefered communcation channels. Teaching the skills to correctly communicate during a online course is helpful for the student to receive help in a timely manner, and build connections with peers. Although it also supports the professor in recieving emails that provide needed information to help.

Hand written notes have a bigger impact on our memory than digital notes do. Having a set place to answer questions and reflect on work provides the opportunity to mentally and physically organize knowledge.
