Unit six consisted of an article to read, a SIMPath assignment, and a discussion board all related to data and databases.
This unit supported me in building knowledge about how different databases work and the organization of them.
These are some of the questions and terms I explored this unit to support my learning!
What is the URL of the database you are accessing?
This way, we can all check it out as well.
Access to database: https://ntrs.nasa.gov
2. When you query the database, what type of information are you presented?
Is it text? Abstracts of articles? Images? Videos?
When viewing the database multiple types of media are presented, including articles, journals, and images. Most of the information is consisting of text.
3. Can you filter the results to help refine the results you receive?
receive?
Yes, the information can be filtered using the title of the media, the author, date and type of media. This can be further sorted by best match, or most recent to oldest.
4. Can you sort the results by any criteria?
Date? Relevance?
Yes, best match and most recent or oldest are options to sort your results.
5. What type of DBMS do you think they are using?
Hierarchical? Network? Relational? Multidimensional? Object-Oriented Database?
I think they are using a relational database system because information can be retrieved using search queries and information is organized in tables
From this assignment I learnt about how much information is accessible to anyone with internet access. It was interesting to see all of the databases that you could explore online! I gained knowledge about the different types of databases such as retaional, and object-oriented styles. This helped me better understand the organization of information and guided me through research!
