In Unit 2, we worked through many SIMPaths and learned more about Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. We also finished the Mind Map.
Through this assignment, I learned how to use draw.io. I also learned how to add more shapes to unlock new ones I could not before. This a very useful tool for making one-pagers. I plan on using this website again for future assignments.
I ended up getting 100% on the pretest for the PowerPoint SIMPath, but I did relearn that you can add notes to each slide by adding notes on the bottom left of the screen. I also did not know that you could reorder slides by dragging and dropping them where you want to go. I would previously copy and paste them into the order I wanted.
I also got 100% on the pretest for the Word SIMPath. However, before going into the assignment, I did not know how easy it was to change the style of the document. Also, the references part of the document is a life saver because it makes citing sources in any style so much easier!
I knew very little about Excel before the pretest. The main thing I learned is how to read, which is something I can't believe I had to learn but I'm glad I did. What I mean by this is that I finally realized that if you are looking for something like a way to calculate the number of cells, looking in formulas is a good place to start. And the little indicators on the bottom of the ribbon like "Function Library" are there to group certain functions together, which helps find what you are looking for.
I learned how to adjust my mind map and add new symbols than those provided. I also learned how to better navigate PowerPoint and Word, as well as Excel, which I had never really used before.

Information Hierarchy

Root Folder
- Original folder that contains many folders. It’s the starting point of the foundation. https://sites.google.com/view/prof-noone-csit-101/unit-2/information-hierarchy And Professor Noone.
Working File vs Deliverable File (in concept)
- A working file can be edited (Ex: Word doc).
- A deliverable file can be shared or published (Ex: PDF of Word doc).
Both from: https://sites.google.com/view/prof-noone-csit-101/unit-2/working-vs-deliverable
Saving vs Exporting
- “Saving commits your changes so the program can read and edit them later (working file).”
- “Exporting converts your work into a format that other programs or people can easily use (deliverable file).”
Both from: https://sites.google.com/view/prof-noone-csit-101/unit-2/working-vs-deliverable
Operating System (OS)
- Most important type of system software. They do everything behind the scenes like connecting to the internet and managing files. It’s also customizable. https://sites.google.com/view/prof-noone-csit-101/unit-2/visualizing-info-systems
Open Source Software (OSS)

Multimedia (what are the 5 types?)
- “Text – Beyond simple words: structure, hierarchy, style, and readability matter.”
- “Graphics – From basic pixels to complex vector designs.”
“Raster (Bitmap): Made of pixels, e.g., .jpg, .png, .gif”
“Vector: Defined by geometric shapes, e.g., .svg, .ai, .pdf”
- “Animation – Sequential images that create motion, like an animated GIF!”
- “Audio – Digitized through sampling; common formats: .mp3, .wav, .midi”
- “Video – Combines visual and audio media to tell stories dynamically.”
