As Unit 0 was the first unit in class, I was not sure what to expect. We did a lot of the basics. We learned about information systems, and email and discussion board etiquette.
How to communicate in the best ways on email (I used to start every email with "hi" before this lesson)
How to set up a signature file on email
How to set rules so that your computer automatically transfers the emails you get to a specific location
Trial and error often teaches you more than something giving you exact instructions. Familiarizing yourself with something helps you to naturally learn more down the road
Thank to what I learned in Unit 0, I now know better practices for email. I can use what I have learned to not only help me in other classes, but also to help me in my professional life outside of school.
Unit 0
Information System (IS)
- I could not remember these, but your website says it’s a combination of hardware, software, data, people, and processes to improve performance. https://sites.google.com/view/prof-noone-csit-101/unit-0/information-systems
Learning Management System (LMS)
- A platform to organize information for something like your school. “A system to manage your learning.” I think it counts! https://sites.google.com/view/prof-noone-csit-101/unit-0/information-system
User Interface (UI)
- I forgot what this was. I think it’s because I’m not used to the word “user” in front of it. “Human-computer interaction and communication in a device” (Tech Target User Interface site). https://www.techtarget.com/searchapparchitecture/definition/user-interface-UI
Waffle (as related to user interfaces)
- Professor Noone showed me that the waffle icon shows you apps and other info like classes.
Hamburger (as related to user interfaces)
- The hamburger icon “tells users a menu is available.” (Blue 200 Creative Agency. I can’t find the page anymore, unfortunately).
CC
- Carbon Copy. It sends the exact email to the person you CC. The All About Email website also mentions it means the person doesn’t need to reply. https://sites.google.com/view/prof-noone-csit-101/unit-0/all-about-email
BCC
- Someone you put in, and the “to” user doesn’t know. The All About Email website agrees. https://sites.google.com/view/prof-noone-csit-101/unit-0/all-about-email
Attachment
- Things you add for the other person to see. “Help your recipient see exactly what you’re referring to.” https://sites.google.com/view/prof-noone-csit-101/unit-0/all-about-email
Signature File
- “File” threw me off. It’s that text that appears at the bottom of your emails. “Saves you from typing your info every time.” https://sites.google.com/view/prof-noone-csit-101/unit-0/all-about-email
