Great time in Vancouver for the annual Fine Arts Trip
Art History – the “Un-Birthday Project”
Grade 10 students picked an artist and the assignment was to look up this artist and read enough about him/her that they could come up with six items that would make good gifts for the artist. They wrapped the six presents and placed them in a box that was constructed/painted in the artist's style. We will have an “Un-birthday Party” where each student will open his/her box and explain why these items would be appreciated by the artist and show examples of the artist's work to help everyone understand the style of the wrapping for the present.
This project required students to synthesize what these artists might have valued in their lives – making them more real than a report often simply down-loaded from the internet.
It was a crowded house on Tuesday evening as Immaculata hosted its annual Fine Arts evening with a cultural twist. Students from the grade 8/9 French classes, along with Spanish 11 class preformed dances and choral speaking to the large audience, while the French café, presided over by the grade 12 French class was hopping, serving fruit and dessert plates, as well as meat and cheese platters to awaiting customers. Surrounding the dance floor where black grids that held the art work from grade 8-12 all year. Thank you to all who participated and who helped make the evening a huge success! Thanks especially to Mr. Mathieu who always goes above and beyond to help out…
