The Muscatine High school Color Guard is led by Carolyn Hurlbut with her two daughters Katherine Hurlbut and Elizabeth Hurlbut. It is an open group that is not audition based and free for anyone to join. It is a part of the Marching band and involves 3 main things: Flag work, dance, and the hand picked weapon line.
Color Guard is expected to attend all practices, including the ones that are strictly guard. You are not required to be in band class at MHS to be a part of the Color Guard. They work together to put together choreography for the show of the season, switching equipment based on movement. They are also taught dance for the show and how to properly march and have overall elegant movements while performing.
Practices: Color Guard attends every Marching Band practice, including Early Bird in the morning during school days from 7 am - 8 am. They attend football games, parades, kickoffs, competitions, and the Muskie Invitational. Additionally, they also have practices every Tuesday and Thursday after school between 3:45 - 5:45. These practices are required.
