Jazz Bands

The Muscatine High School Band Program offers two seperate jazz groups for 9th-12th grade students to participate in. The beginner jazz group is called "Jazz Band", and is led by Mr. Heid. The advanced jazz group is "Jazz Ensemble" and is led by Mr. O'Shaughnessy. 

The Jazz Band does not require an audition, and plays easier jazz literature than the Jazz Ensemble - it is encouraged that all students participate in Jazz Band to be introduced to the wide variety of concepts specific to jazz music. There are no instrument requirements to participate in Jazz Band, simply show-up and have fun!

The Jazz Ensemble requires an audition and approval from Mr. O'Shaughnessy. The Jazz Ensemble is one of the premier musical groups at Muscatine High School and competes in the highest bracket of competition within the state of Iowa. Students interested in Jazz Ensemble should be prepared to work hard and are encouraged to work on their ability to improvise all year around.
