Have students construct a DIATONIC SCALE.

• Start with a STAFF on your whiteboard with a TREBLE CLEF sign

• Have the student select one of the 12 notes available from the CHROMATIC SCALE. The exception is choosing C.

• Have them draw notes ascending line/space for eight steps

• Using the W, W, H, W, W, W, H formula have the students add the correct accidental.

Now examine the results. The number of ACCIDENTALS and which notes they are reveal the KEY SIGNATURE.
