This pathway offers meaningful student leadership roles that provide career readiness skills, promote creative problem solving, encourage collaboration, and instill self-awareness, self-reliance, and self-discipline. Throughout each course, students are presented with leadership opportunities that provide significant benefits:
Students design, curate, manage, and lead class and after school activities and projects that enhance their technical literacy and enhance connections to their community.
Students take on formal leadership roles, helping them to develop an expertise in career, technical, leadership, and 21st Century skills.
Students play a central role in the growth of the pathway and in the growth of other students in the pathway.
Leadership opportunities allow students to envision themselves as professionals and future industry leaders.
Students take on roles that help them hold themselves and their peers accountable and develop a sense of responsibility and confidence
Students learn the fundamental qualities of good leadership by working collaboratively with their peers to develop a vision for their projects and paying attention to feedback
Students can use these official titles and list of duties in their resume, college applications and scholarship applications
Students will be widely recognized and credited in all DMA Productions.
This class operates under a leadership class structure in which students can take on formal roles to provide assistance or help each other or help manage the daily work of running a production studio, specifically in the Capstone class. These students will also manage a secondary tier of students who will serve as assistants. As the year progresses, other students will be able to specialize, becoming experts in a certain aspect of the class and serving as the first point of assistance during larger projects. Roles within the class are formalized as follows:
This position is shared by two students to oversee the production of the weekly Trailivision broadcasts. These students are in charge of directing and coordinating other students on the day of recording, working to oversee the script, anchors, camera operators and recording logistics.

Meet weekly with Mr. Sarabia for a production meeting to plan the week’s broadcast.
Meet with the co-director to oversee the final script and correct mistakes or find important announcements that might have been missed on the day of recording.
Be present during the recording day of Trailivision and review and complete the production checklists.
Make sure the set visible to the camera is well lit and there are not unnecessary objects in frame.
Ensure anchors are reading the correct script, adding pauses before and after recording.
Provide suggestions to anchors regarding tone and body expressions.
Be on the lookout for noise, interruptions or reading mistakes.
Direct anchors to redo segments or parts of segments that are not clear or need to be improved.
Manage the flow and speed of anchors for each segment.
Ensure the camera operator is framing and lighting subjects appropriately.
Making notes of the recording to flag errors or good takes in order to help editors work faster.
Work with tech support manager to ensure the final videos are transferred to the editing computer
This is a position that ensures the quality of the final Trailivision broadcast. This student is in charge of making sure there are no errors in editing, titles, that all segment information, QR codes or facts are accurate.

Work with Tech Support to ensure all video clips are successfully transferred and have good audio and video quality.
Work to set up the editing template and work with editors to ensure quality
Be able to solve issues if editors accidentally erase part of the broadcast
Review Trailivison after it is edited and ensure the accuracy of titles, names, QR codes or any other information.
Make sure there are no missing frames, odd transitions, that audio is intelligible throughout the broadcast.
Work with editors to ensure the volume for each segment in the final broadcast is consistent.
Ensure no inappropriate content or language ends up as part of the broadcast
Be the final fact checker of any information that is being broadcast.
Fill out and sign off on the production checklist so that we can upload Trailivison.
These students are in charge of setting up all the sets and technology on the day of recording to ensure a successful recording session.

Meet weekly with Mr. Sarabia for a production meeting to plan the week’s broadcast.
Be present during the recording day of Trailivision and review and complete the setup production checklists.
Ensure the set is ready for Trailivision, that the anchor chair or chairs are adequately positioned and all other unnecessary objects or cables are out of the frame.
Ensure the camera is at the correct position and angle.
Ensure the camera is operational and set to the correct shutter speed, aperture and ISO.
Ensure the camera is plugged in or has enough power
Ensure the camera has a clean memory card.
Ensure the sound and microphone are operating correctly and the camera is picking up audio.
Ensure the lights are on and that glares are minimized.
Ensures the final script is loaded to the ipad so the anchors can record their segments.
Ensure that after the recording session, the videos are transferred to the editing computer and that all videos look good, have adequate sound and visual quality.
These students are in charge of assigning and managing the production of our weekly feature or any special projects that the class is asked to complete.

Meet weekly with Mr. Sarabia for a production meeting to plan the week’s broadcast.
Meet with the co-director to create the Quarterly calendar and come up with ideas for each week’s special feature
Assign the special feature to a crew for a give week
Work with the crew to ensure that interviews and filming for weekly features are happening on schedule
Work with Editors to ensure the week’s special feature is completed by the Trailivision production day.
Meet with the co-director to create the Monthly calendar for Special projects.
Coordinate the script, recording and editing of our monthly special projects. For example, our first project will be a video to welcome new Students to MT.
Work with the crew to ensure that interviews and filming for special projects are happening on schedule
Work with Editors to ensure the month’s project is completed by the deadline.
Meet weekly with Mr. Sarabia to oversee the production checklist for both Features and Special projects
This position is shared by two students to oversee the production of the weekly Trailogy podcast. These students are in charge of directing and coordinating other students on the day of recording, working to oversee the questions, hosts, camera operators and recording logistics.

Coordinate the week’s topic and final list of questions with co-director
Coordinate with guests so they are able to come on the day of recording
Be present during the recording day of the Trailogy Podcast and review and complete the production checklists.
Make sure the set visible to the cameras is well lit and there are not unnecessary objects in frame.
Ensure podcast host is has the right question
Provide suggestions to the host regarding flow or in the moment additions to the questions.
Be on the lookout for noise, interruptions or meandering answers.
Direct hosts to redo questions or parts of the interview that are not clear or need to be improved.
Ensure the camera operator is framing and lighting the podcast appropriately.
Direct hosts or guests speak softer or louder or get closer or further from the microphones depending on the situation.
If using ipads, edit the podcast on the fly, changing between cameras at an appropriate pace.
Making notes of the recording to flag errors or answers in order to help editors work faster.
Work with tech support manager to ensure the final videos and audio are

Ensure the cameras are have enough power
Ensure the cameras have clean memory cards.
Ensure the podcast mixer is on and that all audio is at the appropriate levels.
Ensure the lights are on and that glares are minimized.
Ensures the final questions are loaded to the ipad so the hosts can record their interview.
Ensure that after the recording session, the videos are transferred to the editing computer and that all videos look good, have adequate sound and visual quality.
After recording, ensure that all equipment is turned off or put away.
This students will assist in the process of checking out and checking in equipment during class or after school. While the instructor is responsible for the tracking and administration of the equipment, this student will assist in scanning and serving as a second set of eyes, especially during the return of equipment. This student will also assist in the weekly inventory of cameras and audio equipment. This student must have a deep understanding of the operation and function of all the equipment in the studio.

Meet with Technology managers and Special projects directors to understand what equipment will be needed for a specific production day.
Be able to manage the DMA class inventory google sheet
Be able to manage the checkout and return process for equipment.
Be able to accurately track which students are using which equipment.
Be in charge of reviewing contracts for any equipment that is kept overnight
Make sure the camera batteries are in constant rotation and fully charged for production days.
Understand which cameras are best suited for specific projects and work with other teams to make sure they have what they need to complete their work.
Be able to understand and communicate the difference, strengths and weaknesses of each piece of equipment in the Camera cabinet.
Become familiar with the audio equipment and make sure the wireless microphones are always charged.
Do a quick inventory check at the end of each day equipment is used to make sure nothing is missing.
This student will be in charge of keeping a calendar to track class and after school events, maintain a master schedule of all features and special projects, and work closely with the equipment tracking lead to make sure equipment is never overbooked.

Generate a list of ideas of special features we want Trailivision to cover as well as recording dates and topics for the Trailogy podcast
Constantly update the wall calendar to include any important upcoming games, assemblies, school events or special celebrations like “Mental Health Awareness Month” or “API Heritage Month”
Maintain and update a a master schedule google sheet that tracks the features and special projects
Meet weekly with podcast directors to decide the topic and the guest for the show.
Help coordinate reaching out to students or staff who will be a guest for the show, for that reason this student must be comfortable making connections and have an ease with talking with both students and staff.
Meet with Mr. Sarabia to create a schedule calendar of production meetings and manage the meeting space so students can convene and collaborate on their projects
This student is in charge of maintaining a professional but engaging and fresh look for Trailivison. This student must be creative as well as technically oriented and be familiar with Final cut and After Effects.

Meet weekly with Mr. Sarabia and Special project directors and Trailivision Production Directors for a production meeting to plan any special visual or graphics for the week’s broadcast.
Work in After effects to create variations to the animation intro
Work with the animation class to create transitions for our trailivision segments.
Create graphics in Photoshop or Canva for special segments and certain times of the year, like holidays, or months celebrating a specific heritage.
Be on the lookout for new (copyright free) music that we can use to update the intro and to to use throughout Trailivision.
Create a library of music and sound effects that we can use in Trailivision.
Work with Mr. Sarabia and Outreach coordinator to create the DMA shirt design and decide on what other materials we can make for outreach.
This student is in charge of helping grow the DMA program and helping with outreach and making the program look appealing.

Be present at club rushes and outreach events like back to school night, Open House and Mustang Derby
Work closely with Mr. Sarabia to plan and organize the booth display in order to encourage freshmen to enter the DMA program or for people to join the DMA club
Work closely with Mr. Sarabia to organize special events, like movie nights, mixers and open studio tours
Become a spokesperson for the program, visiting freshment classes to tell them about the benefits of the program or producing videos.
Work with Mr. Sarabia to create and update all outreach materials for DMA.
Work closely with weekly photographer and Mr. Sarabia to post weekly behind the scenes pictures of footage of our Trailivision work to social media
Create tasteful and school appropriate reels/stories posts in order to highlight the work of the DMA and Trailivison Production Class.
Work with Mr. Sarabia and Graphics Director to coordinator to create the DMA shirt design and decide on what other materials we can make for outreach.
In charge of taking pictures of video behind the scenes in the trailvision class. This student will use a camera or cell phone to take pictures of the Trailivision or Trailogy recording as well as of students working and having fun in the DMA room. These students wil then be in charge of creating a slide show for the class at the end of the year.
This is an appointed role. One student will be appointed for a two week cycle for this role
The student is in charge of identifying and correcting immediate safety hazards in the studio. Examples include loose cables, tripping hazards, unstable stands, obstructions and other items or behaviors that might pose a safety risk to peers.

This student oversees all aspects of the Digital Media Arts program and the after-school club. This is an elected position which charges a student with all matters related to the after school club, including event planning, fund raising, and the student body that will meet to discuss how to grow and improve the pathway.
This is an elected role. One student will be elected during the General DMA meeting. However a student may nominate themselves.
