Showing Sensitivity to Students' Needs
In July of 2024, I read this article and created the plans below on how to best differentiate my teaching to best connect with students of varying levels of need.
Assessment and Identification:
Conduct ongoing assessments to determine students' performance levels.
Tier 1: Universal Instruction
Provide high-quality instruction for all students.
Use differentiated strategies and monitor progress regularly.
Tier 2: Targeted Interventions
Offer small group interventions for students needing additional support.
Use targeted strategies and increase intervention frequency.
Tier 3: Intensive Interventions
Provide individualized instruction for students who continue to struggle.
Implement specialized strategies and conduct frequent progress monitoring.
Individualized Education Plans (IEPs):
Review and implement accommodations from IEPs.
Instructional Strategies:
Tailor instruction to each student's needs using multimodal methods.
Offer additional support such as small group instruction and assistive technology.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work with special education staff and communicate with parents.
Regularly update IEPs based on student progress.

Enrichment Strategies:
Provide advanced learning opportunities and tiered assignments.
Encourage independent study and offer extracurricular activities.
Acceleration and Extension:
Allow accelerated curriculum progression.
Partner with community resources for additional experiences.

Give regular feedback and create a supportive, intellectually stimulating environment.
