concert-03-music academy-1963

M S Subbulakshmi's concert at the Music Academy, Madras, on the evening of 29th December, 1963. She was accompanied by

Radha Viswanathan - Vocal Support

Thiruvalangadu N Sundaresa Iyer - Violin

Chalakkudy N S Narayanaswamy - Violin

T K Murthy - Mridangam

Umayalpuram Kodhandarama Iyer - Ghatam

This concert is extremely unique due to the presence of 2 violin vidwans! The Music Academy records state that the scheduled violin vidwan for this concert was Sri Chalakkudy Narayanaswamy. With deference to Sri Sundaresa Iyer's seniority, Sri Chalakkudy Narayanaswamy literally plays "second fiddle" to the senior vidwan in a most admirable and unobtrusive manner.

Note: There is a marked drop in the quality of track 8, due to a physical defect in the original tape. We have remastered the music to the best possible extent. Also, a major portion of the tanam is missing from track 10, possibly due to changing tape sides.
