What a Divine Voice of MSS Amma ! Saraseeruhaasana priye Ragam Nattai 36th Mela Janya Adi Talam Puliyur Sri Duraiswami Iyer Krithi This Krithi is Written in Sanskrit
----
Puliyoor Shree Duraiswaamee Aiyyar – Also known as Panchanatha Iyer or Manattattaai Duraiswami Aiyar, the father of Maha Vaidyanatha Iyer, he himself was a renowned musician.
----
He lived in Vaiyacheri, a small village in Tanjore district, with his wife Arundati. Duraiswami was proficient in Tamil, Telugu and Sanskrit. Once while he was singing Thyagaraja’s “Chakkani Raja” (Kharaharapriya), Sri Thyagaraja, who was passing by, blessed him saying that his two sons would become very famous in music.
--
Duraiwami had four sons – Sambamurthy, Ramaswami, Vaidyanathan and Sivaraman (or Appaswami). Duraiswami found that Ramaswami and Vaidyanathan evinced keen interest in music and trained them in singing. Among his well-known compositions are sarasiruhAsana priyE, and the dasaragamalika varnam “Intha Gopa.”
This song is in Sambodhana prathama vibhakti , which means addressing the deity ( naama stuti ).
Hey Saraswati !

One who is the consort of lotus throne adorner ( Brahma ) , one who relishes playing the veena and is always happy ||
anupallavi
My shelter is your tender lotus feet , you who makes the souls of poets and devotees happy and who wears gemstone rings
Charanam
Your eyes are like lotus petals , you who - are the protector of destitutes, - are the one with the radiance like that of waxing winter moon and with clean mind ; you who - has all the good virtues, always the repository of knowledge, - has two perfectly rounded breasts resounding with literature and music , - are fair complexioned, - gives all the desired boons , - has books in the hands. || Hey Saraswati ! ||

A janya raga of Chalanata, Nattai is considered a very auspicious raga and signifies the beginning of any concert. It is a mangala raga, and most compositions in this raga are on Lord Vinayaka, the remover of all obstacles. It is a Ghana raga, and the first of Thyagaraja’s Pancharatnas is in this raga.
----
It is also a Vivadi raga, i.e. some notes are placed at very close intervals, and hence an intoxicating effect is created in Chalanata and Nattai ragas. The Hindustani raga Jog closely resembles Nattai. The essence of the raga is in how its sung- generally fast paced and hence, acts like a wake up call for the listeners — and this is why Nattai is generally used to begin a concert to set the tone for the rest of the kutcheri to follow. Nattai evokes the Veera Rasa. Veera Rasa is created by using fast tempos while composing music. Bravery, heroism, and manliness are some of the attributes of this Rasa. Other than Veera Rasa, Naatai also evokes the emotions of Bhakthi and Valsalya.
