Tia L. Ford

My name is Tia L. Ford, and I am a future elementary educator committed to creating learning environments where every child feels valued, challenged, and uplifted. Growing up on the Westside of Chicago shaped my belief that education is not just academic, it’s a pathway to confidence, identity, and opportunity.

Throughout my journey at Howard University, in my student-teaching placement at Howard University Middle School, and through my leadership roles on campus and in my community, I have grown into an educator who leads with intention, empathy, and high expectations.

I believe in culturally relevant teaching, building strong relationships, and designing learning experiences that push students to think critically, explore deeply, and see themselves as capable scholars. Why Study Education?

I chose to study education because I’ve always believed that the classroom is one of the most powerful places to change a child’s life. Growing up on the Westside of Chicago shaped the way I see the world—seeing the gaps, the inequities, and the brilliance that often goes unnoticed. I wanted to be the kind of educator I wish more students had: someone who sees them fully, challenges them, and reminds them of their worth every single day. Teaching gives me the chance to pour into students the same way my mentors poured into me, and to make learning feel meaningful, affirming, and connected to their lived experiences. Education is my way of giving back, uplifting my community, and creating opportunities for the next generation to dream bigger than what they see around them.
