InTASC Standard #3
This standard is about creating a classroom built on trust, belonging, and active engagement. I applied it by establishing consistent routines like Do Nows and Exit Tickets, co-creating community expectations, and building a space where mistakes were embraced as learning opportunities. I focused on relationship-building and classroom culture so students felt safe enough to take academic risks and collaborate with one another.
Strengths: I excel at creating a structured, predictable learning environment where students understand expectations and feel supported. I use my teacher voice, proactive routines, warm-ups, and consistent redirection to maintain engagement and minimize downtime. My presence, clarity, and consistency help students feel safe, focused, and ready to learn. Even in cohorts with high behavioral needs, I am able to establish a positive classroom culture by reinforcing expectations, building relationships, and using SEL-informed practices that center respect and responsibility. This stability allows students to engage more confidently and reduces opportunities for misbehavior.
Weakness: I am still strengthening my ability to facilitate smooth transitions between activities, especially with groups that display higher levels of off-task or energetic behavior. At times, transitions take longer than planned, which can impact pacing and momentum. I am working on developing more efficient transition routines, such as clearer step-by-step directions, visual timers, call-and-response cues, and proximity-based management, to help students shift their focus more quickly. My goal is to recapture attention with greater consistency so transitions remain tight, calm, and productive.

Classroom Culture Handbook
Click here for my Classroom Culture Handbook---This Classroom Culture Handbook outlines the expectations, routines, and community norms I used to create a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment. It provides students with clear guidance on behavior, respect, participation, and daily procedures, helping them understand what success looks like in our classroom. By establishing consistent routines and shared agreements, this handbook promotes collaboration, positive social interaction, and active engagement. It demonstrates my commitment to designing a learning environment that is predictable, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate for all learners.
To help create a positive and welcoming learning environment, I shared an All About Me page with my students at the beginning of my placement. This allowed them to learn about my background, interests, and values, and it helped establish trust and connection from the start. By openly introducing myself, I modeled authenticity and created a space where students felt comfortable sharing about themselves as well. This practice supported our classroom culture by promoting relationship-building, belonging, and mutual respect key elements of an environment where students feel safe, encouraged, and ready to learn.
