Some classes have started learning how to draw a realistic portrait in class with Ms. Amore this month, others have not. Please use the handout below to review the steps before you start drawing. Think about why an artist would need to use guidelines.
Materials needed: any drawing paper, pencil & eraser, a mirror, crayon or colored pencils.
*This week we will continue drawing portraits. It is project week. This means in addition to your drawing/sketch please also color using realistic colors (if you have). If not add a background or border to make your picture feel complete.
*For the week of 3/30 you can either create another self-portrait, now that you have had a week to practice, OR you can draw someone you know and love :) When an artist draws someone else, they usually either reference a picture of that person or draw from life (ask someone to sit and model for you).
Consider drawing a family member you are home with this week .. a sibling, parent etc. Don't forget to show them afterwards !
If you have a mirror, study the features on your face. Think about the lines and shapes you see. Think about the spacing that is shown in the handout. Set up your oval and guidelines very lightly in pencil!
*Remember - do not feel overwhelmed or say "I can't" - try your best and be patient with yourself! Practice/focus on the features you are having most difficulty with. You can also google .."how to draw_____for kids" if you would like more assistance with a nose or specific hairstyle for example.
The following worksheets can be used as additional support in drawing.
Below - you will also find a checklist to help guide you as you work.
Remember to think about what features make you unique :)
