After graduating in Summer 2022, Yesenia got offered a Mathematics teacher and coach position at San Clemente High School. Currently, she is teaching at her alma mater, San Clemente High School, where she teaches two courses: Algebra I and Topics in Calculus. She loves what she does with a passion and her enthusiasm and positivity spreads like wildfire.
Growing up in a close niche community, Yesenia realized the importance and benefits of having the socio-emotional support of her school teachers. She intends to emulate that by building a sense of community in her classroom, and by bringing awareness to mental health issues. Yesenia is passionate about making connections and developing trusting relationships with students, their families, and their communities. She plans to encourage students to have fun when learning math as well as help them shape their own mathematical identities.
Professional Achievements
About Me
I am an assistant Cross Country and Track and Field coach at SCHS. I am in charge of creating and implementing daily running workouts, assignments of head coach, and communication with parents. I focus on the students' academics, athletic performance, and overall well-being. I make sure each athlete is doing their best and getting better each day and making small steps of improvement each practice. I encourage teamwork, positive attitudes and dedication. I believe I am helping athletes develop a love and confidence in their ability to run cross country and track and field. As a result of my positivity and genuine love for running several of my Topics in Calculus and Algebra I students decided to join the schools Track and Field team. Abolitionist teaching is teaching for liberation which sheds light on the notion of working in solidarity to dismantle inequities and injustices in schools and communities.
"Abolitionist teaching is built on the creativity, imagination, boldness, ingenuity, and rebellious spirit and methods of abolitionists to demand and fight for an educational system where all students are thriving, not simply surviving.”
