This lesson is a fun way to incorporate intercommunication between students, as well as creative learning. Students have the opportunity to pick their “dream vacation” for this project. They can pick anywhere they would like, however, the catch is they must do research to discover what funds they will need on the trip. This subject covers math concepts, as the students will need to use addition as well as multiplication to figure out cost of stay, and cost of food for a seven day dream vacation. This is a great real life example and project that will help students get inspired and ready to learn. This project is set for students in 3rd grade to 6th grade. The objective of this project is to get students to see how they can use what they are learning in school and apply it to examples in the real world. Students will have a partner for this project, and each team will be in charge of coming up with accurate and sufficient research on the place they have chosen. I also ask that each student looks into more factors of their area than just cost. Climate, Population, as well as geography of the place of their choosing must be included in the presentation. Each topic of the rubric is based on a 4 point scale. 4 being excellent, 1 being poor. This assignment is worth a total of 20 points. This rubric focuses on the quality of presentation. Are students researching and trying to the best of their ability on their presentation? This rubric also gives a timeline that guides students on what is looked for as far as time management goes. bThis will help students be accountable for their work on the presentation. Students must also be responsible for the workload given. It is important that one student does not do all the work while the other student slacks off. Students must also come up with a plan and outline of their research which will help them formulate their presentation and keep them organized. Finally, students must have at least two quality sources that they used when helping them complete the project. Wikipedia would not qualify as a reliable source. With each of these topics included as guidance, students should be able to complete this project efficiently and accurately. This project encourages the collaboration between students and will help communication skills as well as math skills. This is a real life project that hopefully students will enjoy making in a fun, project-based manner.
