Hello Parents,
I just want share what is going home with math. With each unit we cover one lesson in class. We launch the lesson with group games or task cards. In this 20 minute session your child isor should be engaged with a partner or small group to play a math game with a specific skill. I ciruclutate around the room while students solve the problem. I monitor and encourage dicussion among each other. Math games offer students opportunity 'how to solve' and 'how to work out problems another way' or even 'how to correct or see an error they have made'.
We then, move on with guided instruction of the lesson's specific skill or strategy (20 minutes). Then we complete the workbook pages together. Some students may work ahead alone, with partner or with me with more guided practice. If you notice some problems come home incomplete, that is ok. That just shows you they need more time or help or both. In the future, students will have a math buddy and a math location to work together.
Being that it has only been only 8 days , I am offering grace over grades. We will work up into the Rigor of 2nd grade and learn to LOVE math!
Skills that your child should by now is adding doubles, making 10 and adding up to 20. Check out the following videos for fun. Listen, sing and then play with any number set cards to practice adding make 10s, doubles and adding up to 20. Have fun!
