Here is a sample of what to expect for each week's Homework
I will keep homework routine as simple as possible to help fit into family extracurricular activities outside of the school. Homework can be returned daily, or on Fridays or the following Mondays. Any concerns I will reach out on an individual basis.
Reading 10-20 minutes
I encourage everyone to read 10-20 minutes everyday. Weekly we will check out library books and I will encourage everyone to select within their Lexile level. Books can be from home or school. Our class goal is to reach 100 Reading counts points. Later in the school year we will begin comprehension handouts for reading and completion. So that you can see their progress in fluency and comprehension.
Writing 10 minutes
Select 1-3 activities to practice using our week's words of study. I will incorporate our new Phonics into our Reading program. Each week I will notify you of our weekly words for phonics, sight words and vocabulary. Your child can select their favorite activity and submit that at the end of the week.
Math 10 minutes
Math Handouts will be sent out after each lesson. I send home the present day's math page so that you can see what we are covering, what your child has completed and the homework page that goes along with that lesson.
Differentiated Homework-
Additional homework is on an individualized basis for enrichment or intervention. For the beginning of the year (August and September) I want to focus on becoming responsible and creating routines- by returning Bee binders, completing agendas, and returning math homework.
Dolch Word list-
The following link will be the entire word list that every second grader will be or become proficient in. I will assess each student individuallly and tally their total of words read fluently without assistance each quarter. I will include a word list for additional practice to be attached in their binders. Please keep in the binder and make your own copies to keep at home for further practice at home.
Special Family Projects will be seasonal.
