The ability to work productively and equitably while valuing others in diverse educational settings.

Everyone learns best when they are exposed to material in various modalities and from multiple points of view. That is why student collaboration is central to my teaching philosophy. When students have to put their learning into their own words and teach it to others, they learn on a deeper level and retain the information for longer. Students also benefit from learning from their peers, as it is a lower stakes interaction.
Technology allows instant collaboration within small groups and across entire classrooms. In my Fourth grade Missions unit, my students utilized Padlet to re-create El Camino Reel on a California map, including pictures and information about each of the 21 missions.
Extending collaboration outside of the classroom is even more vital at this point in time. Proper, guided use of social media can enliven homework and provide support outside of school hours. It is also imperative that we teach digital literacy and reasonability at all ages.
Classroom teaching can be isolating, so it is vital to work with fellow educators to share ideas and refine lessons.
