Welcome
Hi! I’m Mr. Pratt! Welcome to my class!
I was born and raised here in Utah. I grew up in Davis County and graduated from Clearfield High School where I played football and was a state placing wrestler. After that I attended Weber State University, where I achieved degree in Education. I later earned my Master's in Educational Leadership with Western Governor's University.
I spent my first 7 years of teaching at a school up north, until I met my beautiful wife, and the rest as we say is history. I now live here in Tooele with my wife and two kids, and I am pretty much living the dream.
I have been teaching for nearly two decades. I taught for 9 years in 6th grade, and then the next 8 years in 4th. I am more than happy to put my admin license on hold to explore this new adventure with junior high kids!

Teaching Philosophy
Every student deserves a voice. They deserve to be seen, heard, and valued, and to know that they matter. I believe students learn best when they feel safe, supported, and excited to be at school. One of my primary goals as a teacher is to make learning engaging and enjoyable, because when students like coming to school, they are more willing to participate, take risks, and grow.
I approach teaching with a growth mindset, believing that effort, perseverance, and attitude play a critical role in learning. Guided by the idea that mindset shapes success, I strive to help students build confidence in their abilities and understand that mistakes are not failures, but an essential part of the learning process.
I view my role as a partner in each student’s education, working alongside students and families to support growth and success. In my classroom, students should feel physically and emotionally safe, trusting that their ideas are respected and their efforts encouraged. Ultimately, my goal is for students to leave my classroom as stronger, more responsible, and more confident individuals—better prepared for both learning and life.

Tissues, hand sanitizer, and Chlorox wipes are always needed in the classroom. These are not required but would be helpful. Other supplies will either be supplied by the school or requested as needed through the year.
Classroom Rules
In addition to all of the school rules and expectation that are covered in the student handbook (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nMs7NOxU46gUwQaIJLfmtU9x3mPKi1T5/view), students will also be expected to follow these classroom rules:
· Feel free to do anything that doesn’t cause a problem for anyone else.
· If you cause a problem, I will ask you to solve it.
· If you can’t solve the problem or choose not to, I will do something.
· I will treat you with respect so you will know how to treat me.
· What I do will depend on the special person and special situation
· If you think something is unfair, whisper to me, “I’m not sure that’s fair, “ and we will talk.
What is taught? – Tech Theater
Technical Theater is a hands-on, behind-the-scenes class where students learn what really makes a show come to life. From building sets to designing lights, organizing props, managing sound, creating costumes, and running backstage operations, students will explore the creative and technical skills that bring theater magic to the stage.
This course is perfect for students who love to create, problem-solve, build, design, or simply want to be part of something big. Through teamwork and real production experience, students will develop confidence, responsibility, and the ability to turn ideas into finished, stage-ready results.
Technical Theater is where artists, makers, and thinkers all come together to create something unforgettable—one cue at a time.
What is taught? – Digital Media
Multimedia Masterclass is a creativity-driven digital projects course designed to get students excited about school again. Throughout the semester, students will explore modern media by creating eye-catching graphics in Canva and Photoshop, building their own website, writing a blog, producing a podcast, and making two short films—both a documentary and a narrative—from script to final edit.
This class gives students the tools to tell their stories, express their ideas, and create real, shareable projects they can be proud of.
What is taught? – Creative Coding
This course introduces students to the exciting world of computer science through hands-on projects that let you create your own websites, animations, and games.
In this course, you'll learn how computers help us solve problems and express our creativity. You'll start by exploring the problem-solving process and how computers work, then dive into building real projects that matter to you. Whether you're designing colorful web pages, creating interactive animations, or developing your own games, you'll use computer science as a tool for creativity, communication, and fun.
No prior experience is needed! This course is designed for students who are brand new to computer science. You'll work collaboratively with classmates, experiment with new ideas, and build authentic projects you can share with friends and family.
What is taught? – 6th Grade Tech
This course introduces students to the essential technology skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. Throughout the semester, students will learn digital citizenship, computer fundamentals, Microsoft Office, graphic design, research skills, coding, and multimedia creation while developing creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities.
Students will also build strong keyboarding habits through daily practice and complete hands-on projects that encourage them to create, communicate, and think like responsible digital citizens. Whether designing graphics, coding programs, producing multimedia, or exploring emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, students will leave this course with practical skills they can use for years to come.
What is taught? – 6th Grade Music
This class is all about exploring music in creative ways—no instruments required! We’ll listen to songs from lots of different styles, talk about what we hear, and discover how music can tell stories, set a mood, and make us feel things.
Students will share opinions, keep short music journals, and work together on creative activities. We’ll also explore how music shows up in movies, video games, and media. To finish the semester, students will create a parody song that teaches something they’ve learned in school and make a music video to go with it.
If you like listening to music, sharing ideas, and being creative, this class is for you.
Grading
Students will receive grades on both formative and summative assessments. The following grading scale will be used:
A = 100% - 94%
A- = 93% - 90%
B+ = 89% - 87%
B = 86% - 83%
B- = 82% - 80%
C+ = 79% -77%
C = 76% - 73%
C- = 72% - 70%
D+ = 69% - 67%
D = 66% - 63%
D- = 62% - 60%
F = 59% or less
Citizenship:
Citizenship scores will reflect all student behavior: from showing up to class on time to making sure the classroom is clean and ready for the next class and everything in between. Citizenship scores are as follows:
H – Honors
S – Satisfactory
N – Needs Improvement
U – Unsatisfactory
Films in class: Periodically (though rare) I will show films or film clips in class to students. These films are either informative pieces or correspond to our units. They will all be rated at or under PG.
