Biography
I have been teaching since graduating the University of Sheffield, UK, in 2002. I spent the first 9 years of my career teaching KS3, GCSE and A-Level Geography at a range of schools in the UK Secondary system before taking the leap to go international. In 2011, I made the life changing decision to take up a post teaching IB MYP Individuals & Societies and DP Geography at the International School Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. After spending four years as the I&S Subject Area Coordinator at Tashkent International School, Uzbekistan, I moved to the American International School Budapest to teach Theory of Knowledge & C3 Social Studies. Most recently I was Head of Social Studies, teaching C3 Social Studies & DP Geography.

Coaching
I have coached cross country and athletics throughout my international teaching career and really enjoy engaging with a wide range of student athletes outside the classroom and helping motivate them to be their physical best.
Personal Interests
Whilst I have always been an active person, I have become more aware of my own wellbeing from a diet and exercise point of view in the last few years. I am a passionate cyclist, both on a competitive and recreational level. I really enjoy the physical challenges of racing and long distance riding as well as the mindful element of turning the pedals. In 2021 I completed my second 'Everesting' for charity, climbing a hill repeatedly to reach 8848m in altitude gain. This was the first ever completion in Uzbekistan and raised over $2000 USD for the Green Aral Sea Project, planting 2150 trees.
I am an advocate for cycling as a solution to many urban issues and actively promote cycling within the school community. As part of this, I have been the teacher supervisor for 'Cyclothon', an event which I brought to AISB from TIS. It coincides with World Bicycle Day to give students an opportunity to engage with cycling as practical, healthy and sustainable pastime.

I enjoy yoga and am able to self practice the Ashtanga series, occasionally stepping in to teach classes at school when our regular teacher has not been able to show. I got into yoga through running injuries but really engage with it on a physical and mindful level now. I use yoga as part of the morning mindfulness activities I always integrate into the begininning of the first class of the day, to help repare myself and the students for the day ahead.
Model United Nations
As co-Director for the Model United Program at Tashkent International School, we developed our own hosted conference and took delegations to international conferences including THIMUN, Netherlands. I am really proud to have been part of developing this program which provides authentic and valuable opportunities for skill development outside the classroom. The website developed for this can be seen by clicking below. Since moving to AISB, I have brought in elements of the MUN expereince into the Social Studies curriculum.
