"Authentic, inclusive constructivist learning engages students allowing all to flourish and reach their potential."
I strive to include fieldwork at appropriate points in the curriculum such as this trip to evaluate the urban environment of Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Click here for an example of student work.
Immersive experiences can have a powerful impact on student learning. In Grade 7, as part of a unit called "On the Move", students were, without warning told to get their bags - they were leaving! They went through a border experience staffed by Grade 11 & 12 drama students who replicated some of the injustices and challenges faced by migrants, especially those from LEDCs.
I am a firm believer in developing cross curricular links wherever possible, whether they be formal or informal. Here is an example of a recent Interdiscplinary Unit developed in conjunction with Science. This project based learning unit was developed with the shared aim of developing critical thinking and systems thinking skills to empower and embolden students in the face of global issues, to offset anxiety and help them recognise they are able to be part of the required solutions. The assessment "Fixing Pakistan" utilised the Compass Education VISIS Pyramid to structure the project. An example of student work can be seen here.
