Here's my take on catwalk:
The notes for this, in case you can't read music are as follows (with their respective beat values):
.5.5.5.5
C D E C 2X
.5.5 1
E F G 2X
.25.25.25.25 .5 .5
G A G F E C 2X
.5. 5 1
C G C 2X
These tasks are not listed in the Starting from Scratch textbook but I want you to do those in order to consolidate your understanding of repetition (loops).
Create your own song that will feature repetition (use the repeat block) and set the instrument to anything you like. Alternatively, program the "Alphabet" song. The piano notes for "Alphabet Song" or "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" are as follows (a "-" indicates a rest, letters in bold have a double length, letters underlined have a half length):
C,C,G,G,A,A,G,F,F,E,E,D,D,D,D,C,
G,G,F, E,E,D,G,G,G,F,E,E,D
C,C,G,G,A,A,G, F,F,E,E,D,D,C
You can check out the musical notation for this song, as well.
Add a rhythmic part to Frére Jacques or your own song. Both the melody and percussions must be in sync. See Andy's example of this.
If you are unfamiliar with the theory behind rhythm, you can refresh it, for instance, here:
Program the Slovak folk song "Prší prší" using repeat blocks as indicated below:
GGAG repeat 4X
FFFEEEDDGGCCC repeat 2x
the longer notes are underlined
Check out Danko's version featuring the use many more repeat blocks
Program the English folk song "Row, row, row your boat", and turn it into a canon. Adjust the tempo as needed. You can find the song, for instance, here.
