Vital Inquiry: How might grammar and vocabulary further enhance my essay's audience appeal(s)?
Overview:
Many students in ENG 100 think that good writing is grammar-error free writing. I don't believe that. To me, good writing is a function of purpose, audience, and structure, and grammar errors reflect weaker audience response because grammar errors weaken comprehension.
Another popular misconception is that students need to use fancy vocabulary words to do well in ENG 100; I don't believe that, either. It's great to have an enhanced vocabulary, but for certain genres of writing, simple terms and simple concepts are better than SAT-level words.
