Energy concepts are a major theme in science and the study of the universe as whole. Energy is the stuff that stuff has so that it can do stuff to other stuff. Without energy nothing in the universe really happens.
Energy and Energy conservation are also huge themes in today society. Going "green" or using more renewable sources of energy is a concern for us a species. Also, the field of renewable energy offers many future opportunity for research and development of new technologies.

This week you should try to do the WebAssign 4-2_Energy. Its more of the same as last weeks worksheet. Webassign should give you some more instantaneous feedback as you work through them. Reminder that none of this work is required. so you dont have to write it down on engineering paper. Just try to earn the green check to check your understand.
Next week is technically spring break. so there wont be an optional assignment. After spring break required graded work will resume. I plan on have these optional assignments be the required work for the first few days. So, if you have been doing them, then you are all set. If you haven't been looking at them maybe do that over the next two weeks so you are ready to go when online school officially begins.
Solutions for last weeks worksheet
If your are having trouble visualizing the bar charts. Check out the pHet Energy skate-park simulator.
It can show you the bar charts change in real time as your skater moves around on a track of your design.
Keep in mind in this simulator they call the work from friction thermal energy. which sometime we have call internal energy. They are all the same idea just different names. Its the energy that is dissipated from friction and heat. Just make sure you account for it one time, even though we have three names for it.
This week try some more practice with bar Energy Flow Bar Charts. But this time using the bar charts to set up and equations to solve for varies quantities.
Big Idea: Initial Energy + Work = Final Energy
Use your Bar chart to identify the types of Energy you have. Eg, Ek, Eel, Wfriction.
Ex: A ball at the top of a hill moving at 4m/s goes down the hill and runs into a spring.
(Eg + Ek) -Wfriction = (Eel)
Then put in the equation for each one and solve for what ever you need to.
Eg = mgh
Ek =0.5mv^2
Eel = 0.5kx^2
Work = Force * displacement (remember only use the parallel components. And pay careful attention to the positive and negative signs.
Solutions to these worksheets to come soon.
Stay home, stay safe.
Solutions to the Energy Bar Chart worksheet.
One is done with all problems without friction and the other with friction.
I would suggest you compare them to really see how friction and the negative work it does effects the energy flow.
When we left off we just finished the Kinetic Energy Transfer Lab. As we converted the Spring Energy into Kinetic Energy.
This week we will continue to model energy transfers through the idea of forces doing work.
Here is a reading on how to model energy transfer using a bar charts, and a practice worksheet with several scenarios for you to model the how the energy is transferred.
Ill provide an answer key later in the week
