Your Ring doorbell is stuck on "Connecting to network" and nothing seems to work. This is one of the most common Ring problems, and the fix is usually simpler than you think. Follow this guide to get your Ring back online in minutes.
Check your WiFi frequency. Most Ring doorbells only work with 2.4GHz networks. If your phone is connected to 5GHz during setup, your Ring can't see that network.
Solution: Look for your WiFi network WITHOUT "5G" or "5GHz" in the name. Connect your phone to that 2.4GHz network, then run Ring setup again.
This single fix solves approximately 40% of all Ring WiFi connection failures.
Open phone WiFi settings
Find network name without "5G" or "5GHz"
Connect to that network
Retry Ring setup
2.4GHz Only Models: Ring 1, Ring 2, Ring Wired Both Frequencies: Ring 3, Ring 4, Ring Pro, Ring Pro 2
Battery models: Open Ring app → Devices → Device Health → Check battery. Charge to 100% if below 20%.
Hardwired models: Transformer must be 16-24V AC with 30VA minimum (40VA for Ring Pro).
Check RSSI in Ring app under Device Health:
-40 to -60: Good signal
-70 or worse: Need WiFi extender
Consider Ring Chime Pro or mesh WiFi system.
Unplug modem and router
Wait 30 seconds
Plug in modem, wait 2 minutes
Plug in router, wait 2 minutes
Retry Ring setup
Find orange setup button (back/side of Ring)
Press and hold 20-25 seconds
Release when light flashes
Wait 1-2 minutes
Set up as new device in Ring app
⚠️ Warning: Factory reset erases all settings.
Ring does NOT support WPA3. Change router security to WPA2-PSK (AES) in your router's admin panel.
In router settings, find "AP Isolation" or "Wireless Isolation" and turn it OFF. This feature blocks devices from communicating.
Ring WiFi failures typically come from five causes:
Wrong frequency – Phone on 5GHz, Ring only sees 2.4GHz
Low power – Weak battery or underpowered transformer
Weak signal – Too far from router, walls blocking signal
WPA3 security – Ring doesn't support newest encryption
AP Isolation – Router blocking device communication
Most problems are solved by connecting to 2.4GHz or checking your power source.
