You're here because Windows just threw Error 2753 at you. The message says something like "The File is not marked for installation" and now your software won't install.
Good news — this error is fixable. The trick is knowing which fix applies to your situation.
Error 2753 happens when Windows Installer tries to execute a file and fails. But the reason it fails depends on what software you're installing and what's happening on your system.
Find your software below and start with that fix. If it doesn't work, move to the General Fixes section at the bottom.
Adobe installations are the most common source of Error 2753. The culprit is almost always leftover files from a previous Adobe installation — even one you thought you fully removed.
The Adobe-Specific Fix:
Download the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool directly from Adobe's website. This isn't the regular uninstaller. It's a specialized tool that finds and removes every trace of Adobe software that might be interfering.
Close all Adobe applications. Run the Cleaner Tool as Administrator. Select the product causing problems — or select All to clean everything Adobe-related.
Let it finish. Restart your computer.
Now download a fresh installer from Adobe's official site. Not from a third-party download site. Not from an old installer you have saved. Fresh from Adobe.
Run the installation.
If that didn't work:
Check if you have multiple user accounts on your computer. Adobe sometimes installs components under a different user profile. Log into each account and run the Cleaner Tool from each one.
Also check your antivirus. Adobe installers get flagged by aggressive security software. Temporarily disable real-time protection during installation.
Autodesk Error 2753 failures usually trace back to .NET Framework issues or corrupted Visual C++ components. Autodesk products rely heavily on these Windows components, and if they're damaged, installation fails.
The Autodesk-Specific Fix:
First, repair your .NET Framework installation.
Press Windows key plus R. Type appwiz.cpl and press Enter. Click "Turn Windows features on or off" in the left sidebar.
Find the .NET Framework entries. Uncheck all of them. Click OK and wait for Windows to remove the features. Restart your computer.
Go back to Windows Features. Re-check the .NET Framework entries. Click OK and let Windows reinstall them. Restart again.
Now try your Autodesk installation.
If that didn't work:
Download Autodesk's official removal tool from their support site. Different products have different tools — search for your specific product plus "removal tool" on Autodesk's site.
Run the removal tool to completely eliminate all traces of previous Autodesk installations. Restart.
Download the standalone installer rather than the web installer. The standalone version is more reliable because it doesn't depend on a continuous internet connection during installation.
Disable your antivirus temporarily. Run the installer as Administrator.
Ryzen Master Error 2753 is almost always a Visual C++ Redistributable issue. The software requires specific Windows components that might be missing or corrupted on your system.
The Ryzen Master-Specific Fix:
Go to Microsoft's official Visual C++ download page. Download and install the latest Visual C++ Redistributable packages — you need both the x64 and x86 versions even if you have a 64-bit system.
Install the x64 version first. Then install the x86 version. Restart your computer.
Now right-click the Ryzen Master installer and select "Run as administrator." This is important — don't just double-click it.
If that didn't work:
Manually delete any leftover Ryzen Master files. Check these locations:
C:\Program Files\AMD\RyzenMaster — delete this folder if it exists
C:\ProgramData\AMD — delete this folder if it exists
Also open Programs and Features and uninstall any existing AMD Ryzen Master entry, even if it seems broken or incomplete.
Restart. Try the installation again as Administrator.
HP driver installations fail with Error 2753 when previous driver versions weren't fully removed. HP software tends to spread components across multiple locations, and the standard uninstaller doesn't always catch everything.
The HP-Specific Fix:
Don't use standalone driver installers. Use HP Support Assistant instead.
First, remove all existing HP software. Go to Settings, then Apps, then find and uninstall every HP-related program. There might be several — HP Printer Software, HP Scan, HP Support Solutions, and others.
Restart your computer.
Open Device Manager. Find your HP device under the appropriate category. Right-click it and select Uninstall device. Check the box to delete the driver software if that option appears. Restart again.
Now download HP Support Assistant from HP's official website. Install it and let it detect your HP hardware. Use Support Assistant to install the correct drivers.
If that didn't work:
Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP's support site. This tool finds and fixes HP software problems automatically. Let it clean up your system, then try Support Assistant again.
Office Error 2753 requires Microsoft's dedicated removal tool. Standard uninstallation almost never fully removes Office, and leftover components block new installations.
The Office-Specific Fix:
Download the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant from Microsoft's official site. This tool is specifically designed to completely remove Office installations.
Run the tool. Select the option to uninstall Office. Let it complete the full removal process — this can take 15-20 minutes.
Restart your computer.
Sign into your Microsoft account at office.com. Download a fresh Office installer from your account portal. Run the installation.
If that didn't work:
Check if you have Office components from multiple versions. Sometimes people have Office 2019 components mixed with Microsoft 365 components, causing conflicts.
Run the Support and Recovery Assistant again. Select "I have Office installed but can't uninstall it" and let it do a deep removal.
Also check for Visio, Project, or other Office-adjacent products. These use shared components and can cause conflicts.
If your software isn't listed above, or if you're not sure what's causing Error 2753, use this general diagnostic approach.
Start With the Quick Fixes:
Re-register Windows Installer. This takes 30 seconds and fixes a surprising number of Error 2753 cases.
Open Command Prompt as Administrator. Type msiexec /unregister and press Enter. Then type msiexec /regserver and press Enter. Restart your computer.
Clear your temp folders. Open File Explorer and go to C:\Windows\Temp — delete everything. Then press Windows key plus R, type %TEMP%, and delete everything in that folder too.
Try your installation again.
If Quick Fixes Didn't Work — Do a Clean Boot:
Background processes interfere with installations constantly. A clean boot eliminates that interference.
Press Windows key plus R. Type msconfig and press Enter.
Go to Services tab. Check "Hide all Microsoft services." Click "Disable all."
Go to Startup tab. Click "Open Task Manager." Disable every item in the startup list.
Restart your computer. Try your installation.
If it works in clean boot, a background service was causing the problem. You can re-enable services in batches later to identify which one.
If Clean Boot Didn't Work — Fix Permissions:
Right-click the folder where you're installing the software. Select Properties. Go to Security tab. Click Advanced.
Click Change next to Owner. Enter your Windows username. Check "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects." Apply.
Click Add. Select a principal — enter your username. Check Full Control. Check "Replace all child object permission entries." Apply.
Try your installation again.
If Nothing Has Worked — Fresh Installer:
Your installer file is likely corrupted. Go back to the official source — the actual software vendor's website — and download a fresh copy.
Don't use download mirrors. Don't use old installers you have saved. Get a new download directly from the source.
For large files, use a download manager that can verify file integrity and resume interrupted downloads.
If you want to know exactly what's failing, Windows logs it.
Press Windows key plus R. Type eventvwr.msc and press Enter.
Expand Windows Logs. Click Application.
Look for entries with MsiInstaller as the source. Find entries timestamped around when your installation failed.
Double-click those entries. The details will show exactly which file caused the failure and often why Windows couldn't execute it.
This information can help you search for more specific solutions if the fixes above didn't resolve your situation.
